USA's foreign trade with Taiwan, exports to Taiwan and imports from Taiwan in April 2021

The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

Trade with Taiwan represented in April of 2021, 2.5 per cent share of USA's foreign trade in goods, 2.1% of USA's exports and 2.7% of imports. In April Taiwan was USA's eight largest foreign trade partner. Decrease from the previous month was 3 places. Amounting trade to worth of $9.2 billion was 33.3 per cent bigger than in April of the previous year. In April the trade balance with Taiwan was $3.2 billion in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Taiwan was 34.3 per cent higher than in April of the previous year, thus amounting to $6.2 billion. Major product categories of imports from Taiwan were Sitc752 (automatic data-processing machines and units thereof; magnetic or optical readers, machines for transcribing data onto data media in coded form and machines for processing such data, n.e.s.), representing 11.6 percent of imports, Sitc759 (parts and accessories (other than covers, carrying cases and the like) suitable for use solely or principally with machines falling withing groups 751 and 752) 9.9 % and Sitc764 (telecommunications equipment, n.e.s., and parts, n.e.s., and accessories of apparatus falling within division 76) 8.6 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Taiwan were 31.3 percent higher than in April of the previous year, thus amounting to $3.0 billion. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc728 (other machinery and equipment specialized for particular industries; parts thereof, n.e.s.), which represented a share of 15.4 per cent of total exports, Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude) 12.6 % and Sitc776 (thermionic, cold cathode or photo-cathode valves and tubes (e.g., vacuum or vapour or gas-filled valves and tubes, mercury arc rectifying valves and tubes, cathode-ray tubes, television camera tubes); diodes, transistors and similar semiconductor dev) 10.7 % of the exports.

Development during January-April 2021

During January-April, trade in goods with Taiwan has grown faster than USA's trade in goods with the rest of the world. During January-April, the value of trade in goods between the two countries rose to $33.5 billion. Growth compared to the corresponding period of the previous year was 17.8 percent. During January-April the value of imports was $21.8 billion. The export value was $11.7 billion. Compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the value of imports increased by 20.8% and the value of exports by 12.6%. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc752 (automatic data-processing machines and units thereof; magnetic or optical readers, machines for transcribing data onto data media in coded form and machines for processing such data, n.e.s.), worth $2.7 billion. In export the largest value had Sitc728 (other machinery and equipment specialized for particular industries; parts thereof, n.e.s.), worth being $1.7 billion. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-April remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $10.0 billion. The trade deficit continued to widen compared to the corresponding period in 2020. At that time, the deficit was $7.6 billion.
