USA's foreign trade with China, exports to China and imports from China in April 2021

The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In April 2021 China represented 13.3 per cent of USA's foreign trade in goods, 8.1 % of USA's exports and 16.6 % of imports. In April China was USA's third largest foreign trade partner. Most of the value of trade between the countries consists of the import to USA. Amounting trade to worth of $49.3 billion was 24.8 per cent bigger than in April of the previous year. In April the trade balance with China was $25.8 billion in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from China was 21.6 per cent higher than in April of the previous year, thus amounting to $37.6 billion. Major product categories of imports from China were Sitc764 (telecommunications equipment, n.e.s., and parts, n.e.s., and accessories of apparatus falling within division 76), representing 13.7 percent of imports, Sitc752 (automatic data-processing machines and units thereof; magnetic or optical readers, machines for transcribing data onto data media in coded form and machines for processing such data, n.e.s.) 13.1 % and Sitc894 (baby carriages, toys, games and sporting goods) 5.5 % of the imports.

The value of exports to China were 36.4 percent higher than in April of the previous year, thus amounting to $11.8 billion. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc776 (thermionic, cold cathode or photo-cathode valves and tubes (e.g., vacuum or vapour or gas-filled valves and tubes, mercury arc rectifying valves and tubes, cathode-ray tubes, television camera tubes); diodes, transistors and similar semiconductor dev), which represented a share of 9.7 per cent of total exports, Sitc728 (other machinery and equipment specialized for particular industries; parts thereof, n.e.s.) 6.2 % and Sitc044 (maize (not including sweet corn), unmilled) 5.8 % of the exports.

Development during January-April 2021

During January-April, trade in goods with China has grown faster than USA's trade in goods with the rest of the world. During this year trade in goods between countries was significantly higher than in January-April of the previous year. Growth was as high as 44.0643555893754 per cent and the value of the trade increased to $197.5 billion. During January-April the value of imports was $151.0 billion. The export value was $46.6 billion. Compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the value of imports increased by 41.6% and the value of exports by 52.7%. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc764 (telecommunications equipment, n.e.s., and parts, n.e.s., and accessories of apparatus falling within division 76), worth $20.2 billion. In export the largest value had Sitc776 (thermionic, cold cathode or photo-cathode valves and tubes (e.g., vacuum or vapour or gas-filled valves and tubes, mercury arc rectifying valves and tubes, cathode-ray tubes, television camera tubes); diodes, transistors and similar semiconductor dev), worth being $4.3 billion. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-April remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $104.4 billion. The trade deficit continued to widen compared to the corresponding period in 2020. At that time, the deficit was $76.1 billion.
