USA's foreign trade with Japan, exports to Japan and imports from Japan in November 2021

The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In November 2021 Japan represented 4.2 per cent of USA's foreign trade in goods, 4.2 % of USA's exports and 4.2 % of imports. In November Japan was USA's fourth most important foreign trade partner. Amounting trade to worth of $17.4 billion was 4.3 per cent bigger than in November of the previous year. In November the trade balance with Japan was $4.2 billion in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Japan decreased by 8.1 per cent compared to in November of the previous year, thus amounting to $10.8 billion in November 2021. Major product categories of imports from Japan were Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), representing 22.3 percent of imports, Sitc778 (electrical machinery and apparatus, n.e.s.) 4.6 % and Sitc784 (parts and accessories of the motor vehicles of groups 722, 781, 782 and 783) 4.4 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Japan were 33.6 percent higher than in November of the previous year, thus amounting to $6.6 billion. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc342 (liquefied propane and butane), which represented a share of 11.2 per cent of total exports, Sitc792 (aircraft and associated equipment; spacecraft (including satellites) and spacecraft launch vehicles; parts thereof) 7.7 % and Sitc343 (natural gas, whether or not liquefied) 4.9 % of the exports.

Development during January-November 2021

During January-November trade in goods with Japan has grown slower than USA's trade in goods with the rest of the world. During January-November, the value of trade in goods between the two countries rose to $192.0 billion. Growth compared to the corresponding period of the previous year was 15.5 percent. During January-November the value of imports was $123.6 billion. The export value was $68.4 billion. Compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the value of imports increased by 14.4 % and the value of exports by 17.6 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), worth $29.6 billion. In export the largest value had Sitc342 (liquefied propane and butane), worth being $6.0 billion. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-November remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $55.2 billion. The trade deficit continued to widen compared to the corresponding period in 2020. At that time, the deficit was $49.9 billion.
