USA's foreign trade with Germany, exports to Germany and imports from Germany in September 2023

The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program.

Germany's share of USA's foreign trade in goods in September 2023 represented a share of 4.5 per cent. Share of USA's that month's exports was 3.9 % and 4.8 % of imports. In September Germany was USA's fifth most important foreign trade partner. Amounting trade to worth of $19.3 billion was 2.8 per cent bigger than in September of the previous year. In September the trade balance with Germany was $5.8 billion in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Germany decreased by 1.7 per cent compared to in September of the previous year, thus amounting to $12.6 billion in September 2023. Major product categories of imports from Germany were Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), representing 10.3 percent of imports, Sitc541 (medicinal and pharmaceutical products, other than medicaments of group 542) 7.6 % and Sitc931 (special transactions and commodities not classified according to kind) 7.5 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Germany were 12.6 percent higher than in September of the previous year, thus amounting to $6.7 billion. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), which represented a share of 15.3 per cent of total exports, Sitc792 (aircraft and associated equipment; spacecraft (including satellites) and spacecraft launch vehicles; parts thereof) 12.8 % and Sitc541 (medicinal and pharmaceutical products, other than medicaments of group 542) 8.9 % of the exports.

Development during January-September 2023

During January-September, the value of trade in goods between the two countries rose to $177.8 billion. Growth compared to the corresponding period of the previous year was 12.2 percent. During January-September the value of imports was $119.7 billion. The export value was $58.1 billion. Compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the value of imports increased by 14.6 % and the value of exports by 7.5 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), worth $17.2 billion. In export the largest value had Sitc792 (aircraft and associated equipment; spacecraft (including satellites) and spacecraft launch vehicles; parts thereof), worth being $6.8 billion. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-September remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $61.6 billion. The trade deficit continued to widen compared to the corresponding period in 2022. At that time, the deficit was $50.5 billion.
