USA's foreign trade with Canada, exports to Canada and imports from Canada in November 2021

The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In November 2021 Canada represented 14.8 per cent of USA's foreign trade in goods, 17.7 % of USA's exports and 13.0 % of imports. In November Canada was USA's second most important foreign trade partner. Amounting trade to worth of $61.4 billion was 32.0 per cent bigger than in November of the previous year. In November the trade balance with Canada was $6.1 billion in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Canada was 40.1 per cent higher than in November of the previous year, thus amounting to $33.8 billion. Major product categories of imports from Canada were Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude), representing 24.6 percent of imports, Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars) 7.3 % and Sitc931 (special transactions and commodities not classified according to kind) 4.4 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Canada were 23.2 percent higher than in November of the previous year, thus amounting to $27.6 billion.

Significant increase in trade in goods in early 2021

During January-November, trade in goods with Canada has grown faster than USA's trade in goods with the rest of the world. During this year trade in goods between countries was significantly higher than in January-November of the previous year. Growth was as high as 26.2 per cent and the value of the trade increased to $603.6 billion. During January-November the value of imports was $324.1 billion. The export value was $279.5 billion. Compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the value of imports increased by 32.0 % and the value of exports by 20.2 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude), worth $68.0 billion. In export the largest value had Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), worth being $12.5 billion. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-November remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $44.6 billion. The trade deficit continued to widen compared to the corresponding period in 2020. At that time, the deficit was $13.1 billion.
