USA's foreign trade with Canada, exports to Canada and imports from Canada in April 2021

The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

Canada's share of USA's foreign trade in goods in April 2021 represented a share of 14.2 per cent. Share of USA's that month's exports was 17.4% and 12.1% of imports. In April Canada was USA's second largest foreign trade partner. Amounting trade to worth of $52.6 billion was 77.3 per cent bigger than in April of the previous year. In April the trade balance with Canada was $2.3 billion in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Canada was 83.7 per cent higher than in April of the previous year, thus amounting to $27.5 billion. Major product categories of imports from Canada were Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude), representing 19.2 percent of imports, Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars) 5.9 % and Sitc931 (special transactions and commodities not classified according to kind) 5.6 % of the imports.

Exports to Canada grew strongly over the previous year's April. The value of exports was $25.2 billion.

Development during January-April 2021

During January-April, trade in goods with Canada has grown faster than USA's trade in goods with the rest of the world. During January-April, the value of trade in goods between the two countries rose to $203.5 billion. Growth compared to the corresponding period of the previous year was 17.1 percent. During January-April the value of imports was $107.0 billion. The export value was $96.4 billion. Compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the value of imports increased by 19.3% and the value of exports by 14.7%. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude), worth $19.7 billion. In export the largest value had Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), worth being $4.6 billion. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-April remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $10.6 billion. The trade deficit continued to widen compared to the corresponding period in 2020. At that time, the deficit was $5.7 billion.
