USA's foreign trade with Bangladesh, exports to Bangladesh and imports from Bangladesh in April 2021


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In April Bangladesh was USA's 49. largest foreign trade partner. Rise from the previous month 2 places. Most of the value of trade between the countries consists of the import to USA. Amounting trade to worth of $716 million was 19.0 per cent bigger than in April of the previous year. In April the trade balance with Bangladesh was $409 million in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Bangladesh was 14.8 per cent higher than in April of the previous year, thus amounting to $562 million. Major product categories of imports from Bangladesh were Sitc841 (men's or boys' coats, capes, jackets, suits, blazers, trousers, shorts, shirts, underwear, nightwear and similar articles of textile fabrics, not knitted or crocheted (other than those of subgroup 845.2)), representing 27.8 percent of imports, Sitc845 (articles of apparel, of textile fabrics, whether or not knitted or crocheted, n.e.s.) 22.4 % and Sitc842 (women's or girls' coats, capes, jackets, suits, trousers, shorts, shirts, dresses and skirts, underwear, nightwear and similar articles of textile fabrics, not knitted or crocheted (other than those of subgroup 845.2)) 16.3 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Bangladesh were 37.5 percent higher than in April of the previous year, thus amounting to $153 million. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc343 (natural gas, whether or not liquefied), which represented a share of 22.6 per cent of total exports, Sitc263 (cotton) 18.8 % and Sitc282 (ferrous waste and scrap; remelting scrap ingots of iron or steel) 12.2 % of the exports.

Development during January-April 2021

During January-April trade in goods with Bangladesh has grown slower than USA's trade in goods with the rest of the world. During January-April, the value of trade in goods between the two countries rose to $3.1 billion. Growth compared to the corresponding period of the previous year was 1.7 percent. During January-April the value of imports was $2.4 billion. The export value was $773 million. Compared to the corresponding period January - April in 2020, the value of imports during this period decreased by 0.6 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc841 (men's or boys' coats, capes, jackets, suits, blazers, trousers, shorts, shirts, underwear, nightwear and similar articles of textile fabrics, not knitted or crocheted (other than those of subgroup 845.2)), worth $682 million. In export the largest value had Sitc222 (oil-seeds and oleaginous fruits of a kind used for the extraction of *soft* fixed vegetable oils (excluding flours and meals)), worth being $202 million. The value of exports during this period increased by 9.7 %. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-April remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $1.6 billion. The trade deficit narrowed compared to the corresponding period in 2020. At that time, the deficit was $1.7 billion.
