USA's foreign trade with Bangladesh, exports to Bangladesh and imports from Bangladesh in February 2025


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program.

In February Bangladesh was USA's 49. most important foreign trade partner. Weakening from the previous month was 5 places. Most of the value of trade between the countries consists of the import to USA. $876 million worth of trade was 2.6 per cent lower than in February of the previous year. In February the trade balance with Bangladesh was $702 million in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Bangladesh was 9.6 per cent higher than in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $789 million. Major product categories of imports from Bangladesh were Sitc841 (men's or boys' coats, capes, jackets, suits, blazers, trousers, shorts, shirts, underwear, nightwear and similar articles of textile fabrics, not knitted or crocheted (other than those of subgroup 845.2)), representing 32.9 percent of imports, Sitc845 (articles of apparel, of textile fabrics, whether or not knitted or crocheted, n.e.s.) 22.1 % and Sitc842 (women's or girls' coats, capes, jackets, suits, trousers, shorts, shirts, dresses and skirts, underwear, nightwear and similar articles of textile fabrics, not knitted or crocheted (other than those of subgroup 845.2)) 18.3 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Bangladesh declined considerably,by 51.4 per cent, compared to in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $87 million in February 2025. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc282 (ferrous waste and scrap; remelting scrap ingots of iron or steel), which represented a share of 36.1 per cent of total exports, Sitc263 (cotton) 20.9 % and Sitc081 (feeding stuff for animals (not including unmilled cereals)) 4.6 % of the exports.

Development during January-February 2025

During January-February, trade in goods with Bangladesh has grown faster than USA's trade in goods with the rest of the world. During January-February, the value of trade in goods between the two countries rose to $2.0 billion. Growth compared to the corresponding period of the previous year was 15.4 percent. During January-February the value of imports was $1.7 billion. The export value was $290 million. Compared to the corresponding period in 2024, the value of imports during this period increased by 26.7 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc841 (men's or boys' coats, capes, jackets, suits, blazers, trousers, shorts, shirts, underwear, nightwear and similar articles of textile fabrics, not knitted or crocheted (other than those of subgroup 845.2)), worth $563 million. In export the largest value had Sitc222 (oil-seeds and oleaginous fruits of a kind used for the extraction of *soft* fixed vegetable oils (excluding flours and meals)), worth being $106 million. The value of exports during this period decreased by 24.1 %. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-February remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $1.4 billion. The trade deficit continued to widen compared to the corresponding period in 2024. At that time, the deficit was $954 million.
