USA's foreign trade with Bangladesh, exports to Bangladesh and imports from Bangladesh in September 2022

The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In September Bangladesh was USA's 44. most important foreign trade partner. Most of the value of trade between the countries consists of the import to USA. Amounting trade to worth of $1.2 billion was 29.6 per cent bigger than in September of the previous year. In September the trade balance with Bangladesh was $875 million in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Bangladesh was 36.0 per cent higher than in September of the previous year, thus amounting to $1.0 billion. Major product categories of imports from Bangladesh were Sitc841 (men's or boys' coats, capes, jackets, suits, blazers, trousers, shorts, shirts, underwear, nightwear and similar articles of textile fabrics, not knitted or crocheted (other than those of subgroup 845.2)), representing 35.5 percent of imports, Sitc845 (articles of apparel, of textile fabrics, whether or not knitted or crocheted, n.e.s.) 22.7 % and Sitc842 (women's or girls' coats, capes, jackets, suits, trousers, shorts, shirts, dresses and skirts, underwear, nightwear and similar articles of textile fabrics, not knitted or crocheted (other than those of subgroup 845.2)) 14.1 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Bangladesh declined by 0.2 per cent compared to in September of the previous year, thus amounting to $164 million in September 2022. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc263 (cotton), which represented a share of 24.2 per cent of total exports, Sitc282 (ferrous waste and scrap; remelting scrap ingots of iron or steel) 22.6 % and Sitc541 (medicinal and pharmaceutical products, other than medicaments of group 542) 9.6 % of the exports.

Significant increase in trade in goods in early 2022

During January-September, trade in goods with Bangladesh has grown faster than USA's trade in goods with the rest of the world. During this year trade in goods between countries was significantly higher than in January-September of the previous year. Growth was as high as 46.2 per cent and the value of the trade increased to $11.0 billion. During January-September the value of imports was $8.7 billion. The export value was $2.3 billion. Compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the value of imports increased by 48.2 % and the value of exports by 39.1 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc841 (men's or boys' coats, capes, jackets, suits, blazers, trousers, shorts, shirts, underwear, nightwear and similar articles of textile fabrics, not knitted or crocheted (other than those of subgroup 845.2)), worth $2.7 billion. In export the largest value had Sitc282 (ferrous waste and scrap; remelting scrap ingots of iron or steel), worth being $622 million. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-September remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $6.4 billion. The trade deficit continued to widen compared to the corresponding period in 2021. At that time, the deficit was $4.2 billion.
