USA's foreign trade with Bangladesh, exports to Bangladesh and imports from Bangladesh in November 2021


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In November Bangladesh was USA's 48. most important foreign trade partner. Weakening from the previous month was 2 places. Most of the value of trade between the countries consists of the import to USA. Amounting trade to worth of $925 million was 62.8 per cent bigger than in November of the previous year. In November the trade balance with Bangladesh was $601 million in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Bangladesh was 69.7 per cent higher than in November of the previous year, thus amounting to $763 million. Major product categories of imports from Bangladesh were Sitc841 (men's or boys' coats, capes, jackets, suits, blazers, trousers, shorts, shirts, underwear, nightwear and similar articles of textile fabrics, not knitted or crocheted (other than those of subgroup 845.2)), representing 30.5 percent of imports, Sitc845 (articles of apparel, of textile fabrics, whether or not knitted or crocheted, n.e.s.) 23.6 % and Sitc842 (women's or girls' coats, capes, jackets, suits, trousers, shorts, shirts, dresses and skirts, underwear, nightwear and similar articles of textile fabrics, not knitted or crocheted (other than those of subgroup 845.2)) 13.4 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Bangladesh were 36.4 percent higher than in November of the previous year, thus amounting to $162 million. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc282 (ferrous waste and scrap; remelting scrap ingots of iron or steel), which represented a share of 27.1 per cent of total exports, Sitc222 (oil-seeds and oleaginous fruits of a kind used for the extraction of *soft* fixed vegetable oils (excluding flours and meals)) 22.3 % and Sitc541 (medicinal and pharmaceutical products, other than medicaments of group 542) 19.4 % of the exports.

Significant increase in trade in goods in early 2021

During January-November, trade in goods with Bangladesh has grown faster than USA's trade in goods with the rest of the world. During this year trade in goods between countries was significantly higher than in January-November of the previous year. Growth was as high as 28.9 per cent and the value of the trade increased to $9.4 billion. During January-November the value of imports was $7.4 billion. The export value was $2.0 billion. Compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the value of imports increased by 31.5 % and the value of exports by 20.1 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc841 (men's or boys' coats, capes, jackets, suits, blazers, trousers, shorts, shirts, underwear, nightwear and similar articles of textile fabrics, not knitted or crocheted (other than those of subgroup 845.2)), worth $2.1 billion. In export the largest value had Sitc282 (ferrous waste and scrap; remelting scrap ingots of iron or steel), worth being $557 million. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-November remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $5.4 billion. The trade deficit continued to widen compared to the corresponding period in 2020. At that time, the deficit was $4.0 billion.
