USA's foreign trade with Russia, exports to Russia and imports from Russia in January 2024

The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program.

In January Russia was USA's 72. most important foreign trade partner. Most of the value of trade between the countries consists of the import to USA. Trade in goods between the countries of the month was considerably lower than in in January of the previous year. The value of the trade was $274 million and the drop was 50.5 %. In January the trade balance with Russia was $214 million in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Russia decreased strongly, by 52.0 per cent compared to in January of the previous year. The import amounted to $244 million in January 2024. More than half of the value of imports was in Sitc525 (radioactive and associated materials) representing a share of 55.1 per cent. Other major categories of imports were Sitc562 (fertilizers (other than those of group 272)), 29.2 per cent of imports and Sitc714 (engines and motors, non-electric (other than those of groups 712, 713 and 718); parts, n.e.s., of these engines and motors) 5.7 %.

The value of exports to Russia declined by 32.8 per cent compared to in January of the previous year, thus amounting to $30 million in January 2024. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc541 (medicinal and pharmaceutical products, other than medicaments of group 542), which represented a share of 33.9 per cent of total exports, Sitc098 (edible products and preparations, n.e.s.) 9.7 % and Sitc872 (instruments and appliances, n.e.s., for medical, surgical, dental or veterinary purposes) 5.2 % of the exports.
