Finland's foreign trade with China, exports to China and imports from China in Juli 2026

The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program.

In Juli China was Finland's fourth largest foreign trade partner. Trade with China represented in Juli of 2026 7.6 per cent share of Finland's foreign trade in goods, 4.5 % of Finland's exports and 10.3 % of imports. Amounting trade to worth of €1.0 billion was 18.0 per cent bigger than in Juli of the previous year. For Finland, the trade balance with China was in considerable deficit in Juli. The amount of the month's deficit was €446 million.

The value of imports from China was 25.5 per cent higher than in Juli of the previous year, thus amounting now to €740 million. Major product categories of imports from China were Sitc 764 (telecommunications equipment, n.e.s., and parts, n.e.s., and accessories of apparatus falling within division 76), representing 9.1 per cent of imports, Sitc 778 (electrical machinery and apparatus, n.e.s.) 7.4 % and Sitc 752 (automatic data-processing machines and units thereof; magnetic or optical readers, machines for transcribing data onto data media in coded form and machines for processing such data, n.e.s.) 6.7 % of the imports.

The value of exports to China were 2.7 percent higher than in Juli of the previous year, thus amounting to €294 million. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc 251 (pulp and waste paper), which represented a share of 28.1 per cent of total exports, Sitc 542 (medicaments (including veterinary medicaments)) 6.3 % and Sitc 725 (paper mill and pulp mill machinery, paper-cutting machines and other machinery for the manufacture of paper articles; parts thereof) 6.0 % of the exports.

Significant increase in trade in goods between Finland and China in early 2026

During January-Juli, trade in goods with China has grown faster than Finnish trade in goods with the rest of the world. During this year trade in goods between countries was significantly higher than in January-Juli of the previous year. Growth was as high as 22.3 per cent and the value of the trade increased to €7.4 billion. During January-Juli the value of imports was €5.2 billion. The export value was €2.2 billion. Compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the value of imports increased by 27.6 % and the value of exports by 11.3 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc 778 (electrical machinery and apparatus, n.e.s.), worth €585 million. In export the largest value had Sitc 251 (pulp and waste paper), worth being €641 million. From Finland's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-Juli remained in deficit. The trade deficit was €3.0 billion. The trade deficit continued to widen compared to the corresponding period in 2025. At that time, the deficit was €2.1 billion.
