USA's foreign trade with Tunisia, exports to Tunisia and imports from Tunisia in September 2022


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In September Tunisia was USA's 104. most important foreign trade partner. Weakening from the previous month was 4 places. Trade in goods between the countries of the month was considerably lower than in in September of the previous year. The value of the trade was $71 million and the drop was 16.2 %. In September the trade balance with Tunisia was $28 million in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Tunisia was 3.9 per cent higher than in September of the previous year, thus amounting to $49 million. Major product categories of imports from Tunisia were Sitc421 (fixed vegetable fats and oils, *soft*, crude, refined or fractionated), representing 20.0 percent of imports, Sitc845 (articles of apparel, of textile fabrics, whether or not knitted or crocheted, n.e.s.) 9.3 % and Sitc772 (electrical apparatus for switching or protecting electrical circuits or for making connections to or in electrical circuits (e.g., switches, relays, fuses, lightning arresters, voltage limiters, surge suppressors, plugs and sockets, lamp-holders and) 9.0 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Tunisia amounted to more than a third lower relative to the previous year's September, thus amounting to $21 million in September 2022. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc792 (aircraft and associated equipment; spacecraft (including satellites) and spacecraft launch vehicles; parts thereof), which represented a share of 21.3 per cent of total exports, Sitc251 (pulp and waste paper) 10.8 % and Sitc931 (special transactions and commodities not classified according to kind) 7.4 % of the exports.

Development during January-September 2022

During January-September trade in goods with Tunisia has grown slower than USA's trade in goods with the rest of the world. During January-September, the value of trade in goods between the two countries rose to $941 million. Growth compared to the corresponding period of the previous year was 9.5 percent. During January-September the value of imports was $574 million. The export value was $367 million. Compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the value of imports increased by 1.0 % and the value of exports by 25.9 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc421 (fixed vegetable fats and oils, *soft*, crude, refined or fractionated), worth $168 million. In export the largest value had Sitc222 (oil-seeds and oleaginous fruits of a kind used for the extraction of *soft* fixed vegetable oils (excluding flours and meals)), worth being $76 million. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-September remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $206 million. The trade deficit narrowed compared to the corresponding period in 2021. At that time, the deficit was $276 million.
