USA's foreign trade with Australia, exports to Australia and imports from Australia in February 2025


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program.

In February 2025 Australia represented 1.4 per cent of USA's foreign trade in goods, 1.4 % of USA's exports and 1.3 % of imports. In February Australia was USA's 20. most important foreign trade partner. Amounting trade to worth of $6.2 billion was 64.3 per cent bigger than in February of the previous year. In February the trade balance with Australia was $1.4 billion in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Australia was 234.0 per cent higher than in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $3.8 billion. More than half of the value of imports was in Sitc897 (jewellery, goldsmiths' and silversmiths' wares, and other articles of precious or semiprecious materials, n.e.s.) representing a share of 64.2 per cent.

The value of exports to Australia declined by 8.5 per cent compared to in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $2.4 billion in February 2025. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc541 (medicinal and pharmaceutical products, other than medicaments of group 542), which represented a share of 6.7 per cent of total exports, Sitc971 (gold,non-monetary) 5.3 % and Sitc891 (arms and ammunition) 5.1 % of the exports.

Significant increase in trade in goods in early 2025

During January-February, trade in goods with Australia has grown faster than USA's trade in goods with the rest of the world. During this year trade in goods between countries was significantly higher than in January-February of the previous year. Growth was as high as 76.3 per cent and the value of the trade increased to $13.2 billion. During January-February the value of imports was $8.4 billion. The export value was $4.8 billion. Compared to the corresponding period in 2024, the value of imports during this period increased by 253.3 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc897 (jewellery, goldsmiths' and silversmiths' wares, and other articles of precious or semiprecious materials, n.e.s.), worth $5.4 billion. In export the largest value had Sitc541 (medicinal and pharmaceutical products, other than medicaments of group 542), worth being $258 million. The value of exports during this period decreased by 5.8 %. The trade balance in goods between the two countries between January and February last year had been in surplus when it had a deficit in the corresponding period of the current year. The trade deficit was $3.6 billion.
