USA's foreign trade with Hong Kong, exports to Hong Kong and imports from Hong Kong in February 2025


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program.

Hong Kong's share of USA's foreign trade in goods in February 2025 represented a share of 0.7 per cent. Share of USA's that month's exports was 1.7 % and 0.1 % of imports. In February Hong Kong was USA's 25. most important foreign trade partner. Weakening from the previous month was 3 places. Most of the the value of trade consists of USA's exports to Hong Kong. $3.1 billion worth of trade was 7.1 per cent lower than in February of the previous year. During the month, the balance of trade with Hong Kong was $2.7 billion of surplus.

The value of imports from Hong Kong decreased by 10.4 per cent compared to in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $195 million in February 2025. More than half of the value of imports was in Sitc931 (special transactions and commodities not classified according to kind) representing a share of 64.6 per cent. The second major category of imports was Sitc897 (jewellery, goldsmiths' and silversmiths' wares, and other articles of precious or semiprecious materials, n.e.s.), corresponding to the share of 6.9 per cent of imports.

The value of exports to Hong Kong declined by 6.8 per cent compared to in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $2.9 billion in February 2025. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc667 (pearls and precious or semiprecious stones, unworked or worked), which represented a share of 32.3 per cent of total exports, Sitc897 (jewellery, goldsmiths' and silversmiths' wares, and other articles of precious or semiprecious materials, n.e.s.) 15.3 % and Sitc764 (telecommunications equipment, n.e.s., and parts, n.e.s., and accessories of apparatus falling within division 76) 14.7 % of the exports.

Significant increase in trade in goods in early 2025

During January-February, trade in goods with Hong Kong has grown faster than USA's trade in goods with the rest of the world. During this year trade in goods between countries was significantly higher than in January-February of the previous year. Growth was as high as 23.1 per cent and the value of the trade increased to $7.2 billion. During January-February the value of imports was $2.5 billion. The export value was $4.7 billion. Compared to the corresponding period in 2024, the value of imports during this period increased by 383.8 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc897 (jewellery, goldsmiths' and silversmiths' wares, and other articles of precious or semiprecious materials, n.e.s.), worth $1.9 billion. In export the largest value had Sitc667 (pearls and precious or semiprecious stones, unworked or worked), worth being $1.0 billion. The value of exports during this period decreased by 12.3 %. The trade balance between USA and Hong Kongin between January and February was in surplus for USA. The timing surplus was $2.2 billion.
