USA's foreign trade with Hong Kong, exports to Hong Kong and imports from Hong Kong in Juli 2023


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

Trade with Hong Kong represented in Juli of 2023, 0.5 per cent share of USA's foreign trade in goods, 1.1 % of USA's exports and 0.1 % of imports. In Juli Hong Kong was USA's 30. most important foreign trade partner. Weakening from the previous month was 6 places. Most of the the value of trade consists of USA's exports to Hong Kong. Trade in goods between the countries of the month was considerably lower than in in Juli of the previous year. The value of the trade was $2.1 billion and the drop was 16.1 %. During the month, the balance of trade with Hong Kong was $1.5 billion of surplus.

The value of imports from Hong Kong was 7.6 per cent higher than in Juli of the previous year, thus amounting to $341 million. Major product categories of imports from Hong Kong were Sitc931 (special transactions and commodities not classified according to kind), representing 32.1 percent of imports, Sitc897 (jewellery, goldsmiths' and silversmiths' wares, and other articles of precious or semiprecious materials, n.e.s.) 15.9 % and Sitc667 (pearls and precious or semiprecious stones, unworked or worked) 9.9 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Hong Kong declined by 19.5 per cent compared to in Juli of the previous year, thus amounting to $1.8 billion in Juli 2023. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc764 (telecommunications equipment, n.e.s., and parts, n.e.s., and accessories of apparatus falling within division 76), which represented a share of 19.7 per cent of total exports, Sitc776 (thermionic, cold cathode or photo-cathode valves and tubes (e.g., vacuum or vapour or gas-filled valves and tubes, mercury arc rectifying valves and tubes, cathode-ray tubes, television camera tubes); diodes, transistors and similar semiconductor dev) 11.4 % and Sitc667 (pearls and precious or semiprecious stones, unworked or worked) 9.7 % of the exports.

Development during January-Juli 2023

During January-Juli, the value of trade in goods between the two countries rose to $17.7 billion. Growth compared to the corresponding period of the previous year was 0.2 percent. During January-Juli the value of imports was $2.4 billion. The export value was $15.3 billion. Compared to the corresponding period January - Juli in 2022, the value of imports during this period decreased by 12.9 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc931 (special transactions and commodities not classified according to kind), worth $1.1 billion. In export the largest value had Sitc764 (telecommunications equipment, n.e.s., and parts, n.e.s., and accessories of apparatus falling within division 76), worth being $2.3 billion. The value of exports during this period increased by 2.6 %. The trade balance between USA and Hong Kongin between January and Juli was in surplus for USA. The timing surplus was $12.9 billion.
