USA's foreign trade with South Korea, exports to South Korea and imports from South Korea in September 2022

The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

South Korea's share of USA's foreign trade in goods in September 2022 represented a share of 3.5 per cent. Share of USA's that month's exports was 3.4 % and 3.6 % of imports. In September South Korea was USA's sixth most important foreign trade partner. Amounting trade to worth of $16.0 billion was 13.8 per cent bigger than in September of the previous year. In September the trade balance with South Korea was $4.0 billion in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from South Korea was 15.0 per cent higher than in September of the previous year, thus amounting to $10.0 billion. Major product categories of imports from South Korea were Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), representing 19.1 percent of imports, Sitc759 (parts and accessories (other than covers, carrying cases and the like) suitable for use solely or principally with machines falling withing groups 751 and 752) 6.5 % and Sitc898 (musical instruments and parts and accessories thereof; records, tapes and other sound or similar recordings (excluding goods of groups 763 and 883)) 5.3 % of the imports.

The value of exports to South Korea were 11.9 percent higher than in September of the previous year, thus amounting to $6.0 billion. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude), which represented a share of 24.0 per cent of total exports, Sitc728 (other machinery and equipment specialized for particular industries; parts thereof, n.e.s.) 6.2 % and Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars) 4.9 % of the exports.

Development during January-September 2022

During January-September trade in goods with South Korea has grown slower than USA's trade in goods with the rest of the world. During January-September, the value of trade in goods between the two countries rose to $139.5 billion. Growth compared to the corresponding period of the previous year was 15.9 percent. During January-September the value of imports was $85.9 billion. The export value was $53.6 billion. Compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the value of imports increased by 22.2 % and the value of exports by 7.1 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), worth $15.2 billion. In export the largest value had Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude), worth being $9.0 billion. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-September remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $32.3 billion. The trade deficit continued to widen compared to the corresponding period in 2021. At that time, the deficit was $20.2 billion.
