USA's foreign trade with Malaysia, exports to Malaysia and imports from Malaysia in September 2022

The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In September Malaysia was USA's 19. most important foreign trade partner. Most of the value of trade between the countries consists of the import to USA. In September 2022 Malaysia represented 1.4 per cent of USA's foreign trade in goods, 0.8 % of USA's exports and 1.8 % of imports. Amounting trade to worth of $6.5 billion was 12.0 per cent bigger than in September of the previous year. In September the trade balance with Malaysia was $3.5 billion in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Malaysia was 9.0 per cent higher than in September of the previous year, thus amounting to $5.0 billion. Major product categories of imports from Malaysia were Sitc776 (thermionic, cold cathode or photo-cathode valves and tubes (e.g., vacuum or vapour or gas-filled valves and tubes, mercury arc rectifying valves and tubes, cathode-ray tubes, television camera tubes); diodes, transistors and similar semiconductor dev), representing 28.3 percent of imports, Sitc764 (telecommunications equipment, n.e.s., and parts, n.e.s., and accessories of apparatus falling within division 76) 10.7 % and Sitc778 (electrical machinery and apparatus, n.e.s.) 6.8 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Malaysia were 23.4 percent higher than in September of the previous year, thus amounting to $1.5 billion. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc776 (thermionic, cold cathode or photo-cathode valves and tubes (e.g., vacuum or vapour or gas-filled valves and tubes, mercury arc rectifying valves and tubes, cathode-ray tubes, television camera tubes); diodes, transistors and similar semiconductor dev), which represented a share of 24.6 per cent of total exports, Sitc792 (aircraft and associated equipment; spacecraft (including satellites) and spacecraft launch vehicles; parts thereof) 8.4 % and Sitc288 (non-ferrous base metal waste and scrap, n.e.s.) 5.8 % of the exports.

Development during January-September 2022

During January-September trade in goods with Malaysia has grown slower than USA's trade in goods with the rest of the world. During January-September, the value of trade in goods between the two countries rose to $55.1 billion. Growth compared to the corresponding period of the previous year was 3.1 percent. During January-September the value of imports was $41.5 billion. The export value was $13.6 billion. Compared to the corresponding period January - September in 2021, the value of imports during this period decreased by 1.9 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc776 (thermionic, cold cathode or photo-cathode valves and tubes (e.g., vacuum or vapour or gas-filled valves and tubes, mercury arc rectifying valves and tubes, cathode-ray tubes, television camera tubes); diodes, transistors and similar semiconductor dev), worth $13.0 billion. In export the largest value had Sitc776 (thermionic, cold cathode or photo-cathode valves and tubes (e.g., vacuum or vapour or gas-filled valves and tubes, mercury arc rectifying valves and tubes, cathode-ray tubes, television camera tubes); diodes, transistors and similar semiconductor dev), worth being $3.9 billion. The value of exports during this period increased by 22.0 %. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-September remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $27.9 billion. The trade deficit narrowed compared to the corresponding period in 2021. At that time, the deficit was $31.1 billion.
