USA's foreign trade with Malaysia, exports to Malaysia and imports from Malaysia in April 2021

The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In April 2021 Malaysia represented 1.6 per cent of USA's foreign trade in goods, 0.9 % of USA's exports and 2.0 % of imports. In April Malaysia was USA's 17. largest foreign trade partner. Rise from the previous month 3 places. Most of the value of trade between the countries consists of the import to USA. Amounting trade to worth of $5.8 billion was 60.0 per cent bigger than in April of the previous year. In April the trade balance with Malaysia was $3.3 billion in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Malaysia was 67.0 per cent higher than in April of the previous year, thus amounting to $4.6 billion. Major product categories of imports from Malaysia were Sitc776 (thermionic, cold cathode or photo-cathode valves and tubes (e.g., vacuum or vapour or gas-filled valves and tubes, mercury arc rectifying valves and tubes, cathode-ray tubes, television camera tubes); diodes, transistors and similar semiconductor dev), representing 39.2 percent of imports, Sitc848 (articles of apparel and clothing accessories of other than textile fabrics; headgear of all materials) 11.1 % and Sitc764 (telecommunications equipment, n.e.s., and parts, n.e.s., and accessories of apparatus falling within division 76) 6.4 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Malaysia were 38.7 percent higher than in April of the previous year, thus amounting to $1.3 billion. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc776 (thermionic, cold cathode or photo-cathode valves and tubes (e.g., vacuum or vapour or gas-filled valves and tubes, mercury arc rectifying valves and tubes, cathode-ray tubes, television camera tubes); diodes, transistors and similar semiconductor dev), which represented a share of 26.5 per cent of total exports, Sitc288 (non-ferrous base metal waste and scrap, n.e.s.) 8.3 % and Sitc898 (musical instruments and parts and accessories thereof; records, tapes and other sound or similar recordings (excluding goods of groups 763 and 883)) 6.8 % of the exports.

Development during January-April 2021

During January-April, trade in goods with Malaysia has grown faster than USA's trade in goods with the rest of the world. During this year trade in goods between countries was significantly higher than in January-April of the previous year. Growth was as high as 23.6273717354714 per cent and the value of the trade increased to $22.1 billion. During January-April the value of imports was $17.4 billion. The export value was $4.7 billion. Compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the value of imports increased by 27.5% and the value of exports by 11.3%. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc776 (thermionic, cold cathode or photo-cathode valves and tubes (e.g., vacuum or vapour or gas-filled valves and tubes, mercury arc rectifying valves and tubes, cathode-ray tubes, television camera tubes); diodes, transistors and similar semiconductor dev), worth $7.0 billion. In export the largest value had Sitc776 (thermionic, cold cathode or photo-cathode valves and tubes (e.g., vacuum or vapour or gas-filled valves and tubes, mercury arc rectifying valves and tubes, cathode-ray tubes, television camera tubes); diodes, transistors and similar semiconductor dev), worth being $1.2 billion. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-April remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $12.7 billion. The trade deficit continued to widen compared to the corresponding period in 2020. At that time, the deficit was $9.4 billion.
