USA's foreign trade with Viet Nam, exports to Viet Nam and imports from Viet Nam in April 2021


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In April 2021 Viet Nam represented 2.4 per cent of USA's foreign trade in goods, 0.6 % of USA's exports and 3.5 % of imports. In April Viet Nam was USA's tenth largest foreign trade partner. Rise from the previous month 2 places. Most of the value of trade between the countries consists of the import to USA. Amounting trade to worth of $8.9 billion was 53.8 per cent bigger than in April of the previous year. In April the trade balance with Viet Nam was $7.0 billion in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Viet Nam was 59.0 per cent higher than in April of the previous year, thus amounting to $8.0 billion. Major product categories of imports from Viet Nam were Sitc764 (telecommunications equipment, n.e.s., and parts, n.e.s., and accessories of apparatus falling within division 76), representing 20.5 percent of imports, Sitc821 (furniture and parts thereof; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings) 13.2 % and Sitc851 (footwear) 8.0 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Viet Nam were 20.5 percent higher than in April of the previous year, thus amounting to $935 million. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc263 (cotton), which represented a share of 15.8 per cent of total exports, Sitc776 (thermionic, cold cathode or photo-cathode valves and tubes (e.g., vacuum or vapour or gas-filled valves and tubes, mercury arc rectifying valves and tubes, cathode-ray tubes, television camera tubes); diodes, transistors and similar semiconductor dev) 8.8 % and Sitc282 (ferrous waste and scrap; remelting scrap ingots of iron or steel) 7.9 % of the exports.

Development during January-April 2021

During January-April, trade in goods with Viet Nam has grown faster than USA's trade in goods with the rest of the world. During this year trade in goods between countries was significantly higher than in January-April of the previous year. Growth was as high as 34.5651727810434 per cent and the value of the trade increased to $35.0 billion. During January-April the value of imports was $31.2 billion. The export value was $3.8 billion. Compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the value of imports increased by 39.5% and the value of exports by 4.2%. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc764 (telecommunications equipment, n.e.s., and parts, n.e.s., and accessories of apparatus falling within division 76), worth $6.2 billion. In export the largest value had Sitc263 (cotton), worth being $515 million. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-April remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $27.4 billion. The trade deficit continued to widen compared to the corresponding period in 2020. At that time, the deficit was $18.7 billion.
