USA's foreign trade with Italy, exports to Italy and imports from Italy in February 2025


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program.

In February Italy was USA's 14. most important foreign trade partner. Italy's share of USA's foreign trade in goods in February 2025 represented a share of 1.9 per cent. Share of USA's that month's exports was 1.4 % and 2.2 % of imports. Amounting trade to worth of $8.6 billion was 3.4 per cent bigger than in February of the previous year. In February the trade balance with Italy was $4.0 billion in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Italy was 13.0 per cent higher than in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $6.3 billion. Major product categories of imports from Italy were Sitc541 (medicinal and pharmaceutical products, other than medicaments of group 542), representing 11.6 percent of imports, Sitc542 (medicaments (including veterinary medicaments)) 10.0 % and Sitc931 (special transactions and commodities not classified according to kind) 5.6 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Italy declined by 16.2 per cent compared to in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $2.3 billion in February 2025. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc541 (medicinal and pharmaceutical products, other than medicaments of group 542), which represented a share of 22.8 per cent of total exports, Sitc343 (natural gas, whether or not liquefied) 7.9 % and Sitc792 (aircraft and associated equipment; spacecraft (including satellites) and spacecraft launch vehicles; parts thereof) 6.0 % of the exports.

Development during January-February 2025

During January-February 2025, the value of trade in goods between countries was lower than during the corresponding period in the previous year. The value of the trade was $17.5 billion, a decrease of 0.0 %. During January-February the value of imports was $12.4 billion. The export value was $5.1 billion. Compared to the corresponding period in 2024, the value of imports during this period increased by 3.4 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc542 (medicaments (including veterinary medicaments)), worth $1.3 billion. In export the largest value had Sitc541 (medicinal and pharmaceutical products, other than medicaments of group 542), worth being $1.3 billion. The value of exports during this period decreased by 7.3 %. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-February remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $7.3 billion. The trade deficit continued to widen compared to the corresponding period in 2024. At that time, the deficit was $6.5 billion.
