USA's foreign trade with Italy, exports to Italy and imports from Italy in September 2022


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In September Italy was USA's 16. most important foreign trade partner. Weakening from the previous month was 3 places. Trade with Italy represented in September of 2022, 1.6 per cent share of USA's foreign trade in goods, 1.2 % of USA's exports and 1.8 % of imports. Amounting trade to worth of $7.0 billion was 12.9 per cent bigger than in September of the previous year. In September the trade balance with Italy was $2.9 billion in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Italy was 8.0 per cent higher than in September of the previous year, thus amounting to $5.0 billion. Major product categories of imports from Italy were Sitc542 (medicaments (including veterinary medicaments)), representing 8.1 percent of imports, Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars) 4.1 % and Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar) 4.0 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Italy were 26.9 percent higher than in September of the previous year, thus amounting to $2.1 billion. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc541 (medicinal and pharmaceutical products, other than medicaments of group 542), which represented a share of 11.9 per cent of total exports, Sitc681 (silver, platinum and other metals of the platinum group) 10.4 % and Sitc792 (aircraft and associated equipment; spacecraft (including satellites) and spacecraft launch vehicles; parts thereof) 6.9 % of the exports.

Development during January-September 2022

During January-September trade in goods with Italy has grown slower than USA's trade in goods with the rest of the world. During January-September, the value of trade in goods between the two countries rose to $71.4 billion. Growth compared to the corresponding period of the previous year was 16.9 percent. During January-September the value of imports was $50.6 billion. The export value was $20.9 billion. Compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the value of imports increased by 12.7 % and the value of exports by 28.8 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc542 (medicaments (including veterinary medicaments)), worth $3.7 billion. In export the largest value had Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude), worth being $4.2 billion. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-September remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $29.7 billion. The trade deficit continued to widen compared to the corresponding period in 2021. At that time, the deficit was $28.7 billion.
