USA's foreign trade with Peru, exports to Peru and imports from Peru in April 2021


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In April Peru was USA's 42. largest foreign trade partner. Rise from the previous month 5 places. Amounting trade to worth of $1.1 billion was 81.1 per cent bigger than in April of the previous year. During the month, the balance of trade with Peru was $362 million of surplus.

The value of imports from Peru was 73.7 per cent higher than in April of the previous year, thus amounting to $365 million. Major product categories of imports from Peru were Sitc845 (articles of apparel, of textile fabrics, whether or not knitted or crocheted, n.e.s.), representing 11.1 percent of imports, Sitc897 (jewellery, goldsmiths' and silversmiths' wares, and other articles of precious or semiprecious materials, n.e.s.) 6.3 % and Sitc034 (fish, fresh (live or dead), chilled or frozen) 6.0 % of the imports.

Exports to Peru grew strongly over the previous year's April. The value of exports was $727 million. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar), which represented a share of 30.2 per cent of total exports, Sitc571 (polymers of ethylene, in primary forms) 3.5 % and Sitc752 (automatic data-processing machines and units thereof; magnetic or optical readers, machines for transcribing data onto data media in coded form and machines for processing such data, n.e.s.) 3.3 % of the exports.

Development during January-April 2021

During January-April trade in goods with Peru has grown slower than USA's trade in goods with the rest of the world. During January-April, the value of trade in goods between the two countries rose to $5.1 billion. Growth compared to the corresponding period of the previous year was 8.3 percent. During January-April the value of imports was $1.9 billion. The export value was $3.2 billion. Compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the value of imports increased by 1.0% and the value of exports by 13.1%. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc057 (fruit and nuts (not including oil nuts), fresh or dried), worth $538 million. In export the largest value had Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar), worth being $839 million. The trade balance between USA and Perun between January and April was in surplus for USA. The timing surplus was $1.3 billion.
