USA's foreign trade with Peru, exports to Peru and imports from Peru in February 2025


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program.

In February Peru was USA's 33. most important foreign trade partner. Weakening from the previous month was 2 places. Amounting trade to worth of $1.9 billion was 35.2 per cent bigger than in February of the previous year. During the month, the balance of trade with Peru was $43 million of surplus.

The value of imports from Peru was 50.7 per cent higher than in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $948 million. Major product categories of imports from Peru were Sitc057 (fruit and nuts (not including oil nuts), fresh or dried), representing 42.4 percent of imports, Sitc682 (copper) 6.7 % and Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar) 5.0 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Peru were 23.1 percent higher than in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $991 million. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar), which represented a share of 31.0 per cent of total exports, Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude) 12.5 % and Sitc342 (liquefied propane and butane) 5.2 % of the exports.

Significant increase in trade in goods in early 2025

During January-February, trade in goods with Peru has grown faster than USA's trade in goods with the rest of the world. During this year trade in goods between countries was significantly higher than in January-February of the previous year. Growth was as high as 31.8 per cent and the value of the trade increased to $4.3 billion. During January-February the value of imports was $2.3 billion. The export value was $2.0 billion. Compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the value of imports increased by 39.3 % and the value of exports by 23.8 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc057 (fruit and nuts (not including oil nuts), fresh or dried), worth $1.0 billion. In export the largest value had Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar), worth being $540 million. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-February remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $376 million. The trade deficit continued to widen compared to the corresponding period in 2024. At that time, the deficit was $94 million.
