USA's foreign trade with Colombia, exports to Colombia and imports from Colombia in September 2022


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In September Colombia was USA's 26. most important foreign trade partner. Weakening from the previous month was 2 places. In September 2022 Colombia represented 0.6 per cent of USA's foreign trade in goods, 0.8 % of USA's exports and 0.5 % of imports. Amounting trade to worth of $2.9 billion was 18.3 per cent bigger than in September of the previous year. In September the trade balance with Colombia was $111 million in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Colombia was 58.7 per cent higher than in September of the previous year, thus amounting to $1.5 billion. Major product categories of imports from Colombia were Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude), representing 47.4 percent of imports, Sitc071 (coffee and coffee substitutes) 11.0 % and Sitc971 (gold,non-monetary) 6.0 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Colombia declined by 7.2 per cent compared to in September of the previous year, thus amounting to $1.4 billion in September 2022. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar), which represented a share of 23.2 per cent of total exports, Sitc081 (feeding stuff for animals (not including unmilled cereals)) 4.8 % and Sitc792 (aircraft and associated equipment; spacecraft (including satellites) and spacecraft launch vehicles; parts thereof) 3.9 % of the exports.

Significant increase in trade in goods in early 2022

During January-September, trade in goods with Colombia has grown faster than USA's trade in goods with the rest of the world. During this year trade in goods between countries was significantly higher than in January-September of the previous year. Growth was as high as 46.8 per cent and the value of the trade increased to $30.4 billion. During January-September the value of imports was $14.2 billion. The export value was $16.2 billion. Compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the value of imports increased by 51.8 % and the value of exports by 42.6 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude), worth $6.3 billion. In export the largest value had Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar), worth being $3.8 billion. The trade balance between USA and Colombian between January and September was in surplus for USA. The timing surplus was $1.9 billion.
