Finland's foreign trade with South Korea, exports to South Korea and imports from South Korea in August 2026


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program.

In August 2026 South Korea represented 0.8 per cent of Finland's foreign trade in goods, 1.0 % of Finland's exports and 0.7 % of imports. In August South Korea was Finland's 27. largest foreign trade partner. Weakening from the previous month was 2 places. The month's €115 million trade in goods was 2.4 per cent lower than in August of the previous year. During the month, the balance of trade with South Korea was €8.0 million of surplus.

The value of imports from South Korea decreased by 1.5 per cent compared to August of the previous year, thus amounting to €54 million in August 2026. Major product categories of imports from South Korea were Sitc 776 (thermionic, cold cathode or photo-cathode valves and tubes (e.g., vacuum or vapour or gas-filled valves and tubes, mercury arc rectifying valves and tubes, cathode-ray tubes, television camera tubes); diodes, transistors and similar semiconductor dev), representing 18.9 per cent of imports, Sitc 723 (civil engineering and contractors' plant and equipment; parts thereof) 9.2 % and Sitc 752 (automatic data-processing machines and units thereof; magnetic or optical readers, machines for transcribing data onto data media in coded form and machines for processing such data, n.e.s.) 7.6 % of the imports.

The value of exports to South Korea declined by 3.1 per cent compared to August of the previous year, thus amounting to €62 million in August 2026. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc 716 (rotating electric plant and parts thereof, n.e.s.), which represented a share of 19.2 per cent of total exports, Sitc 522 (inorganic chemical elements, oxides and halogen salts) 9.3 % and Sitc 683 (nickel) 8.3 % of the exports.

Development during January-August 2026

The trade in goods between January and August of 2026 was of lesser value than in the corresponding period of the previous year. The value of the trade was €949 million, down 14.7 %. During January-August the value of imports was €526 million. The export value was €424 million. Compared to the corresponding period in 2025, the value of imports during this period increased by 5.6 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc 781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), worth €78 million. In export the largest value had Sitc 716 (rotating electric plant and parts thereof, n.e.s.), worth being €48 million. The value of exports during this period decreased by 31.1 %. The trade balance in goods between the two countries between January and August last year had been in surplus when it had a deficit in the corresponding period of the current year. The trade deficit was €102 million.
