Finland's foreign trade with Estonia, exports to Estonia and imports from Estonia in August 2026

The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program.

In August Estonia was Finland's eight largest foreign trade partner. Rise from the previous month 2 places. Trade with Estonia represented in August of 2026 3.0 per cent share of Finland's foreign trade in goods, 3.3 % of Finland's exports and 2.7 % of imports. Amounting trade to worth of €406 million was 7.2 per cent bigger than in August of the previous year. During the month, the balance of trade with Estonia was €7.6 million of surplus.

The value of imports from Estonia decreased by 3.8 per cent compared to August of the previous year, thus amounting to €199 million in August 2026. Major product categories of imports from Estonia were Sitc 343 (natural gas, whether or not liquefied), representing 12.9 per cent of imports, Sitc 772 (electrical apparatus for switching or protecting electrical circuits or for making connections to or in electrical circuits (e.g., switches, relays, fuses, lightning arresters, voltage limiters, surge suppressors, plugs and sockets, lamp-holders and) 5.5 % and Sitc 821 (furniture and parts thereof; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings) 5.0 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Estonia were 20.6 percent higher than in August of the previous year, thus amounting to €207 million. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc 351 (electric current), which represented a share of 11.4 per cent of total exports, Sitc 343 (natural gas, whether or not liquefied) 9.3 % and Sitc 334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar) 8.9 % of the exports.

Development during January-August 2026

During January-August trade in goods with Estonia has grown slower than Finnish trade in goods with the rest of the world. During January-August, the value of trade in goods between the two countries rose to €3.5 billion. Growth compared to the corresponding period of the previous year was 8.1 percent. During January-August the value of imports was €1.7 billion. The export value was €1.8 billion. Compared to the corresponding period January - August in 2025, the value of imports during this period decreased by 1.0 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc 343 (natural gas, whether or not liquefied), worth €245 million. In export the largest value had Sitc 351 (electric current), worth being €229 million. The value of exports during this period increased by 18.3 %. The domestic trade balance between the two countries was in surplus, as it had remained in deficit in January-August of the previous year. The surplus was worth €110 million.
