USA's foreign trade with Kenya, exports to Kenya and imports from Kenya in Juli 2023


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In Juli Kenya was USA's 97. most important foreign trade partner. Weakening from the previous month was 24 places. Trade in goods between the countries of the month was considerably lower than in in Juli of the previous year. The value of the trade was $85 million and the drop was 37.0 %. In Juli the trade balance with Kenya was $35 million in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Kenya decreased by 19.8 per cent compared to in Juli of the previous year, thus amounting to $60 million in Juli 2023. Major product categories of imports from Kenya were Sitc841 (men's or boys' coats, capes, jackets, suits, blazers, trousers, shorts, shirts, underwear, nightwear and similar articles of textile fabrics, not knitted or crocheted (other than those of subgroup 845.2)), representing 29.0 percent of imports, Sitc843 (men's or boys' coats, capes, jackets, suits, blazers, trousers, shorts, shirts, underwear, nightwear and similar articles of textile fabrics, knitted or crocheted (other than those of subgroup 845.2)) 16.3 % and Sitc845 (articles of apparel, of textile fabrics, whether or not knitted or crocheted, n.e.s.) 13.2 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Kenya declined considerably,by 58.2 per cent, compared to in Juli of the previous year, thus amounting to $25 million in Juli 2023. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc792 (aircraft and associated equipment; spacecraft (including satellites) and spacecraft launch vehicles; parts thereof), which represented a share of 25.2 per cent of total exports, Sitc931 (special transactions and commodities not classified according to kind) 14.6 % and Sitc422 (fixed vegetable fats and oils, crude, refined or fractionated, other than *soft*) 6.6 % of the exports.

Development during January-Juli 2023

During January-Juli, the value of trade in goods between the two countries rose to $946 million. Growth compared to the corresponding period of the previous year was 17.5 percent. During January-Juli the value of imports was $628 million. The export value was $317 million. Compared to the corresponding period in 2022, the value of imports during this period increased by 44.5 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc541 (medicinal and pharmaceutical products, other than medicaments of group 542), worth $193 million. In export the largest value had Sitc342 (liquefied propane and butane), worth being $74 million. The value of exports during this period decreased by 14.2 %. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-Juli remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $311 million. The trade deficit continued to widen compared to the corresponding period in 2022. At that time, the deficit was $65 million.
