USA's foreign trade with Nigeria, exports to Nigeria and imports from Nigeria in October 2022

The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In October Nigeria was USA's 69. most important foreign trade partner. Weakening from the previous month was 8 places. Trade in goods between the countries of the month was considerably lower than in in October of the previous year. The value of the trade was $409 million and the drop was 34.2 %. In October the trade balance with Nigeria was $61 million in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Nigeria decreased by 16.1 per cent compared to in October of the previous year, thus amounting to $235 million in October 2022. More than half of the value of imports was in Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude) representing a share of 70.1 per cent. The second major category of imports was Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar), corresponding to the share of 22.3 per cent of imports.

The value of exports to Nigeria amounted to more than a third lower relative to the previous year's October, thus amounting to $174 million in October 2022. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), which represented a share of 27.8 per cent of total exports, Sitc792 (aircraft and associated equipment; spacecraft (including satellites) and spacecraft launch vehicles; parts thereof) 12.3 % and Sitc041 (wheat (including spelt) and meslin, unmilled) 10.7 % of the exports.

Development during January-October 2022

During January-October trade in goods with Nigeria has grown slower than USA's trade in goods with the rest of the world. During January-October, the value of trade in goods between the two countries rose to $7.0 billion. Growth compared to the corresponding period of the previous year was 13.8 percent. During January-October the value of imports was $4.0 billion. The export value was $2.9 billion. Compared to the corresponding period in 2021, the value of imports during this period increased by 40.1 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude), worth $3.2 billion. In export the largest value had Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), worth being $499 million. The value of exports during this period decreased by 9.3 %. The trade balance in goods between the two countries between January and October last year had been in surplus when it had a deficit in the corresponding period of the current year. The trade deficit was $1.1 billion.
