USA's foreign trade with Nigeria, exports to Nigeria and imports from Nigeria in April 2021


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In April Nigeria was USA's 54. largest foreign trade partner. Amounting trade to worth of $603 million was 94.9 per cent bigger than in April of the previous year. During the month, the balance of trade with Nigeria was $38 million of surplus.

The value of imports from Nigeria was 246.9 per cent higher than in April of the previous year, thus amounting to $282 million. More than half of the value of imports was in Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude) representing a share of 76.9 per cent. Other major categories of imports were Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar), 6.9 per cent of imports and Sitc072 (cocoa) 6.9 %.

The value of exports to Nigeria were 40.7 percent higher than in April of the previous year, thus amounting to $320 million. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), which represented a share of 28.7 per cent of total exports, Sitc792 (aircraft and associated equipment; spacecraft (including satellites) and spacecraft launch vehicles; parts thereof) 24.2 % and Sitc041 (wheat (including spelt) and meslin, unmilled) 9.2 % of the exports.

Development during January-April 2021

During January-April, trade in goods with Nigeria has grown faster than USA's trade in goods with the rest of the world. During this year trade in goods between countries was significantly higher than in January-April of the previous year. Growth was as high as 50.0712357193655 per cent and the value of the trade increased to $2.2 billion. During January-April the value of imports was $966 million. The export value was $1.2 billion. Compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the value of imports increased by 92.9% and the value of exports by 27.5%. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude), worth $738 million. In export the largest value had Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), worth being $310 million. The trade balance between USA and Nigerian between January and April was in surplus for USA. The timing surplus was $245 million.
