USA's foreign trade with Egypt, exports to Egypt and imports from Egypt in October 2022


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In October Egypt was USA's 56. most important foreign trade partner. Improvement from the previous month was 6 places. Trade in goods between the countries of the month was considerably lower than in in October of the previous year. The value of the trade was $718 million and the drop was 27.7 %. During the month, the balance of trade with Egypt was $332 million of surplus.

The value of imports from Egypt decreased strongly, by 58.1 per cent compared to in October of the previous year. The import amounted to $193 million in October 2022. Major product categories of imports from Egypt were Sitc845 (articles of apparel, of textile fabrics, whether or not knitted or crocheted, n.e.s.), representing 22.3 percent of imports, Sitc843 (men's or boys' coats, capes, jackets, suits, blazers, trousers, shorts, shirts, underwear, nightwear and similar articles of textile fabrics, knitted or crocheted (other than those of subgroup 845.2)) 12.4 % and Sitc841 (men's or boys' coats, capes, jackets, suits, blazers, trousers, shorts, shirts, underwear, nightwear and similar articles of textile fabrics, not knitted or crocheted (other than those of subgroup 845.2)) 9.5 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Egypt declined by 1.3 per cent compared to in October of the previous year, thus amounting to $525 million in October 2022. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc222 (oil-seeds and oleaginous fruits of a kind used for the extraction of *soft* fixed vegetable oils (excluding flours and meals)), which represented a share of 33.6 per cent of total exports, Sitc321 (coal, whether or not pulverized, but not agglomerated) 9.0 % and Sitc792 (aircraft and associated equipment; spacecraft (including satellites) and spacecraft launch vehicles; parts thereof) 7.1 % of the exports.

Development during January-October 2022

During January-October trade in goods with Egypt has grown slower than USA's trade in goods with the rest of the world. During January-October, the value of trade in goods between the two countries rose to $8.2 billion. Growth compared to the corresponding period of the previous year was 15.9 percent. During January-October the value of imports was $2.5 billion. The export value was $5.7 billion. Compared to the corresponding period January - October in 2021, the value of imports during this period decreased by 10.8 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc845 (articles of apparel, of textile fabrics, whether or not knitted or crocheted, n.e.s.), worth $420 million. In export the largest value had Sitc222 (oil-seeds and oleaginous fruits of a kind used for the extraction of *soft* fixed vegetable oils (excluding flours and meals)), worth being $1.9 billion. The value of exports during this period increased by 33.2 %. The trade balance between USA and Egyptin between January and October was in surplus for USA. The timing surplus was $3.2 billion.
