USA's foreign trade with Brunei, exports to Brunei and imports from Brunei in September 2022


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In September Brunei was USA's 151. most important foreign trade partner. Weakening from the previous month was 18 places. Amounting trade to worth of $14 million was 105.0 per cent bigger than in September of the previous year. In September the trade balance with Brunei was $3.0 million in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Brunei was 777.0 per cent higher than in September of the previous year, thus amounting to $8.7 million. More than half of the value of imports was in Sitc691 (structures and parts of structures, n.e.s., of iron, steel or aluminium) representing a share of 73.0 per cent. The second major category of imports was Sitc931 (special transactions and commodities not classified according to kind), corresponding to the share of 16.8 per cent of imports.

The value of exports to Brunei declined by 5.8 per cent compared to in September of the previous year, thus amounting to $5.7 million in September 2022. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc743 (pumps (other than pumps for liquids), air or other gas compressors and fans; ventilating or recycling hoods incorporating a fan, whether or not fitted with filters; centrifuges; filtering or purifying apparatus; parts thereof), which represented a share of 13.2 per cent of total exports, Sitc874 (measuring, checking, analysing and controlling instruments and apparatus, n.e.s.) 13.1 % and Sitc792 (aircraft and associated equipment; spacecraft (including satellites) and spacecraft launch vehicles; parts thereof) 10.0 % of the exports.

Significant increase in trade in goods in early 2022

During January-September, trade in goods with Brunei has grown faster than USA's trade in goods with the rest of the world. During this year trade in goods between countries was significantly higher than in January-September of the previous year. Growth was as high as 77.8 per cent and the value of the trade increased to $151 million. During January-September the value of imports was $75 million. The export value was $76 million. Compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the value of imports increased by 485.2 % and the value of exports by 5.6 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc691 (structures and parts of structures, n.e.s., of iron, steel or aluminium), worth $17 million. In export the largest value had Sitc792 (aircraft and associated equipment; spacecraft (including satellites) and spacecraft launch vehicles; parts thereof), worth being $8.9 million. The trade balance between USA and Brunein between January and September was in surplus for USA. The timing surplus was $1.3 million.
