USA's foreign trade with Qatar, exports to Qatar and imports from Qatar in February 2025


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program.

In February Qatar was USA's 72. most important foreign trade partner. Weakening from the previous month was 6 places. Trade in goods between the countries of the month was considerably lower than in in February of the previous year. The value of the trade was $346 million and the drop was 37.9 %. During the month, the balance of trade with Qatar was $26 million of surplus.

The value of imports from Qatar decreased strongly, by 41.8 per cent compared to in February of the previous year. The import amounted to $160 million in February 2025. Major product categories of imports from Qatar were Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar), representing 46.8 percent of imports, Sitc562 (fertilizers (other than those of group 272)) 31.8 % and Sitc931 (special transactions and commodities not classified according to kind) 12.3 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Qatar amounted to more than a third lower relative to the previous year's February, thus amounting to $186 million in February 2025. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc792 (aircraft and associated equipment; spacecraft (including satellites) and spacecraft launch vehicles; parts thereof), which represented a share of 18.6 per cent of total exports, Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars) 11.4 % and Sitc874 (measuring, checking, analysing and controlling instruments and apparatus, n.e.s.) 6.9 % of the exports.

A sharp drop in trade in goods in early 2025

During January-February, trade in goods between the two countries declined sharply (-21.0 %) over the same period last year. The value of the trade was $799 million. During January-February the value of imports was $324 million. The export value was $475 million. Compared to the corresponding period in 2024, the value of both imports and exports decreased significantly. The decline in imports was 21.5 % and in the value of exports 20.6 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar), worth $164 million. In export the largest value had Sitc897 (jewellery, goldsmiths' and silversmiths' wares, and other articles of precious or semiprecious materials, n.e.s.), worth being $96 million. The trade balance between USA and Qatarin between January and February was in surplus for USA. The timing surplus was $151 million.
