USA's foreign trade with Iraq, exports to Iraq and imports from Iraq in September 2022


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In September Iraq was USA's 51. most important foreign trade partner. Weakening from the previous month was 3 places. Most of the value of trade between the countries consists of the import to USA. Amounting trade to worth of $828 million was 225.5 per cent bigger than in September of the previous year. In September the trade balance with Iraq was $682 million in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Iraq was 386.1 per cent higher than in September of the previous year, thus amounting to $755 million. More than half of the value of imports was in Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude) representing a share of 81.5 per cent. The second major category of imports was Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar), corresponding to the share of 18.4 per cent of imports.

The value of exports to Iraq declined by 26.7 per cent compared to in September of the previous year, thus amounting to $73 million in September 2022. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc764 (telecommunications equipment, n.e.s., and parts, n.e.s., and accessories of apparatus falling within division 76), which represented a share of 23.5 per cent of total exports, Sitc723 (civil engineering and contractors' plant and equipment; parts thereof) 8.6 % and Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars) 6.3 % of the exports.

Significant increase in trade in goods in early 2022

During January-September, trade in goods with Iraq has grown faster than USA's trade in goods with the rest of the world. During this year trade in goods between countries was significantly higher than in January-September of the previous year. Growth was as high as 159.7 per cent and the value of the trade increased to $8.1 billion. During January-September the value of imports was $7.5 billion. The export value was $596 million. Compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the value of imports increased by 196.5 % and the value of exports by 1.0 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude), worth $5.8 billion. In export the largest value had Sitc764 (telecommunications equipment, n.e.s., and parts, n.e.s., and accessories of apparatus falling within division 76), worth being $67 million. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-September remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $6.9 billion. The trade deficit continued to widen compared to the corresponding period in 2021. At that time, the deficit was $2.0 billion.
