USA's foreign trade with Iraq, exports to Iraq and imports from Iraq in April 2021


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In April Iraq was USA's 64. largest foreign trade partner. Rise from the previous month 3 places. Most of the value of trade between the countries consists of the import to USA. Amounting trade to worth of $345 million was 16.3 per cent bigger than in April of the previous year. In April the trade balance with Iraq was $194 million in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Iraq was 13.8 per cent higher than in April of the previous year, thus amounting to $269 million. More than half of the value of imports was in Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude) representing a share of 99.4 per cent.

The value of exports to Iraq were 26.3 percent higher than in April of the previous year, thus amounting to $76 million. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc714 (engines and motors, non-electric (other than those of groups 712, 713 and 718); parts, n.e.s., of these engines and motors), which represented a share of 11.1 per cent of total exports, Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars) 10.9 % and Sitc792 (aircraft and associated equipment; spacecraft (including satellites) and spacecraft launch vehicles; parts thereof) 7.1 % of the exports.

Development during January-April 2021

During January-April, trade in goods between the two countries declined sharply (-37.1 %) over the same period last year. The value of the trade was $1.2 billion. During January-April the value of imports was $956 million. The export value was $273 million. Compared to the corresponding period January - April in 2020, the value of imports during this period decreased by 43.2 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude), worth $925 million. In export the largest value had Sitc542 (medicaments (including veterinary medicaments)), worth being $19 million. The value of exports during this period increased by 0.4 %. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-April remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $682 million. The trade deficit narrowed compared to the corresponding period in 2020. At that time, the deficit was $1.4 billion.
