USA's foreign trade with Iraq, exports to Iraq and imports from Iraq in Juli 2023


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In Juli Iraq was USA's 50. most important foreign trade partner. Weakening from the previous month was 3 places. Trade in goods between the countries of the month was considerably lower than in in Juli of the previous year. The value of the trade was $877 million and the drop was 49.3 %. In Juli the trade balance with Iraq was $421 million in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Iraq decreased strongly, by 61.3 per cent compared to in Juli of the previous year. The import amounted to $649 million in Juli 2023. More than half of the value of imports was in Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude) representing a share of 65.5 per cent. The second major category of imports was Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar), corresponding to the share of 33.7 per cent of imports.

Exports to Iraq grew strongly over the previous year's Juli. The value of exports was $228 million. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc792 (aircraft and associated equipment; spacecraft (including satellites) and spacecraft launch vehicles; parts thereof), which represented a share of 54.3 per cent of total exports, Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars) 15.5 % and Sitc782 (motor vehicles for the transport of goods and special-purpose motor vehicles) 4.5 % of the exports.

Development during January-Juli 2023

During January-Juli, the value of trade in goods between the two countries rose to $6.7 billion. Growth compared to the corresponding period of the previous year was 7.0 percent. During January-Juli the value of imports was $5.3 billion. The export value was $1.4 billion. Compared to the corresponding period January - Juli in 2022, the value of imports during this period decreased by 9.6 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude), worth $3.4 billion. In export the largest value had Sitc792 (aircraft and associated equipment; spacecraft (including satellites) and spacecraft launch vehicles; parts thereof), worth being $585 million. The value of exports during this period increased by 243.6 %. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-Juli remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $3.9 billion. The trade deficit narrowed compared to the corresponding period in 2022. At that time, the deficit was $5.5 billion.
