USA's foreign trade with Norway, exports to Norway and imports from Norway in April 2021


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In April Norway was USA's 47. largest foreign trade partner. Amounting trade to worth of $818 million was 32.4 per cent bigger than in April of the previous year. In April the trade balance with Norway was $300 million in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Norway was 82.0 per cent higher than in April of the previous year, thus amounting to $559 million. Major product categories of imports from Norway were Sitc931 (special transactions and commodities not classified according to kind), representing 20.0 percent of imports, Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude) 16.1 % and Sitc034 (fish, fresh (live or dead), chilled or frozen) 13.5 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Norway declined by 16.7 per cent compared to in April of the previous year, thus amounting to $259 million in April 2021. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude), which represented a share of 16.2 per cent of total exports, Sitc874 (measuring, checking, analysing and controlling instruments and apparatus, n.e.s.) 6.7 % and Sitc511 (hydrocarbons, n.e.s., and their halogenated, sulphonated, nitrated or nitrosated derivatives) 6.0 % of the exports.

Development during January-April 2021

During January-April, trade in goods with Norway has grown faster than USA's trade in goods with the rest of the world. During this year trade in goods between countries was significantly higher than in January-April of the previous year. Growth was as high as 29.6834715734989 per cent and the value of the trade increased to $3.1 billion. During January-April the value of imports was $2.1 billion. The export value was $994 million. Compared to the corresponding period in 2020, the value of imports during this period increased by 61.6 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc931 (special transactions and commodities not classified according to kind), worth $455 million. In export the largest value had Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude), worth being $150 million. The value of exports during this period decreased by 8.4 %. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-April remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $1.1 billion. The trade deficit continued to widen compared to the corresponding period in 2020. At that time, the deficit was $211 million.
