USA's foreign trade with Sweden, exports to Sweden and imports from Sweden in April 2021

The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In April Sweden was USA's 33. largest foreign trade partner. Most of the value of trade between the countries consists of the import to USA. Amounting trade to worth of $1.7 billion was 32.3 per cent bigger than in April of the previous year. In April the trade balance with Sweden was $954 million in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Sweden was 43.6 per cent higher than in April of the previous year, thus amounting to $1.3 billion. Major product categories of imports from Sweden were Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), representing 16.5 percent of imports, Sitc542 (medicaments (including veterinary medicaments)) 8.8 % and Sitc541 (medicinal and pharmaceutical products, other than medicaments of group 542) 4.9 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Sweden were 3.3 percent higher than in April of the previous year, thus amounting to $373 million.

Development during January-April 2021

During January-April trade in goods with Sweden has grown slower than USA's trade in goods with the rest of the world. During January-April, the value of trade in goods between the two countries rose to $6.5 billion. Growth compared to the corresponding period of the previous year was 11.8 percent. During January-April the value of imports was $4.9 billion. The export value was $1.6 billion. Compared to the corresponding period in 2020, the value of imports during this period increased by 19.3 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), worth $891 million. In export the largest value had Sitc541 (medicinal and pharmaceutical products, other than medicaments of group 542), worth being $217 million. The value of exports during this period decreased by 6.3 %. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-April remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $3.3 billion. The trade deficit continued to widen compared to the corresponding period in 2020. At that time, the deficit was $2.4 billion.
