USA's foreign trade with Libya, exports to Libya and imports from Libya in April 2021


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In April Libya was USA's 74. largest foreign trade partner. Decrease from the previous month was 5 places. Most of the value of trade between the countries consists of the import to USA. Amounting trade to worth of $222 million was 912.9 per cent bigger than in April of the previous year. In April the trade balance with Libya was $162 million in deficit for United States of America.

Imports from Libya grew strongly over the previous year's April. The value of imports was $192 million. More than half of the value of imports was in Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude) representing a share of 98.3 per cent.

The value of exports to Libya were 36.6 percent higher than in April of the previous year, thus amounting to $30 million. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), which represented a share of 33.7 per cent of total exports, Sitc056 (vegetables, roots and tubers, prepared or preserved, n.e.s.) 9.1 % and Sitc057 (fruit and nuts (not including oil nuts), fresh or dried) 8.5 % of the exports.

Development during January-April 2021

During January-April, trade in goods with Libya has grown faster than USA's trade in goods with the rest of the world. During this year trade in goods between countries was significantly higher than in January-April of the previous year. Growth was as high as 36.8607211248167 per cent and the value of the trade increased to $491 million. During January-April the value of imports was $414 million. The export value was $77 million. Compared to the corresponding period in 2020, the value of imports during this period increased by 92.7 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude), worth $410 million. In export the largest value had Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), worth being $30 million. The value of exports during this period decreased by 46.6 %. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-April remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $338 million. The trade deficit continued to widen compared to the corresponding period in 2020. At that time, the deficit was $71 million.
