USA's foreign trade with Libya, exports to Libya and imports from Libya in February 2025


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program.

In February Libya was USA's 108. most important foreign trade partner. Weakening from the previous month was 26 places. Most of the the value of trade consists of USA's exports to Libya. Trade in goods between the countries of the month was considerably lower than in in February of the previous year. The value of the trade was $56 million and the drop was 51.7 %. During the month, the balance of trade with Libya was $56 million of surplus.

The value of imports from Libya decreased strongly, by 99.7 per cent compared to in February of the previous year. The import amounted to $205.8 thousand in February 2025. More than half of the value of imports was in Sitc931 (special transactions and commodities not classified according to kind) representing a share of 60.4 per cent. The second major category of imports was Sitc057 (fruit and nuts (not including oil nuts), fresh or dried), corresponding to the share of 38.9 per cent of imports.

Exports to Libya grew strongly over the previous year's February. The value of exports was $56 million. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), which represented a share of 40.7 per cent of total exports, Sitc581 (tubes, pipes and hoses, and fittings therefor, of plastics) 7.3 % and Sitc012 (other meat and edible meat offal, fresh, chilled or frozen (except meat and meat offal unfit or unsuitable for human consumption)) 6.3 % of the exports.

Significant increase in trade in goods in early 2025

During January-February, trade in goods with Libya has grown faster than USA's trade in goods with the rest of the world. During this year trade in goods between countries was significantly higher than in January-February of the previous year. Growth was as high as 38.5 per cent and the value of the trade increased to $302 million. During January-February the value of imports was $167 million. The export value was $134 million. Compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the value of imports increased by 12.6 % and the value of exports by 94.6 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude), worth $167 million. In export the largest value had Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), worth being $48 million. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-February remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $33 million. The trade deficit narrowed compared to the corresponding period in 2024. At that time, the deficit was $80 million.
