USA's foreign trade with Lebanon, exports to Lebanon and imports from Lebanon in September 2023


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program.

In September Lebanon was USA's 110. most important foreign trade partner. Weakening from the previous month was 15 places. Most of the the value of trade consists of USA's exports to Lebanon. Trade in goods between the countries of the month was considerably lower than in in September of the previous year. The value of the trade was $64 million and the drop was 20.7 %. During the month, the balance of trade with Lebanon was $36 million of surplus.

The value of imports from Lebanon decreased by 22.3 per cent compared to in September of the previous year, thus amounting to $14 million in September 2023. Major product categories of imports from Lebanon were Sitc896 (works of art, collectors' pieces and antiques), representing 26.1 percent of imports, Sitc897 (jewellery, goldsmiths' and silversmiths' wares, and other articles of precious or semiprecious materials, n.e.s.) 16.1 % and Sitc931 (special transactions and commodities not classified according to kind) 9.0 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Lebanon declined by 20.2 per cent compared to in September of the previous year, thus amounting to $50 million in September 2023. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), which represented a share of 14.2 per cent of total exports, Sitc793 (ships, boats (including hovercraft) and floating structures) 13.9 % and Sitc764 (telecommunications equipment, n.e.s., and parts, n.e.s., and accessories of apparatus falling within division 76) 11.6 % of the exports.

Development during January-September 2023

The trade in goods between January and September of 2023 was of lesser value than in the corresponding period of the previous year. The value of the trade was $567 million, down 16.6 %. During January-September the value of imports was $142 million. The export value was $425 million. Compared to the corresponding period in 2022, the value of imports decreased by 2.8 % and the value of exports by 20.3 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc897 (jewellery, goldsmiths' and silversmiths' wares, and other articles of precious or semiprecious materials, n.e.s.), worth $53 million. In export the largest value had Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), worth being $93 million. The trade balance between USA and Lebanonin between January and September was in surplus for USA. The timing surplus was $283 million.
