USA's foreign trade with Lebanon, exports to Lebanon and imports from Lebanon in April 2021


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In April Lebanon was USA's 105. largest foreign trade partner. Rise from the previous month 10 places. Amounting trade to worth of $60 million was 8.2 per cent bigger than in April of the previous year. During the month, the balance of trade with Lebanon was $30 million of surplus.

The value of imports from Lebanon was 140.4 per cent higher than in April of the previous year, thus amounting to $15 million. Major product categories of imports from Lebanon were Sitc897 (jewellery, goldsmiths' and silversmiths' wares, and other articles of precious or semiprecious materials, n.e.s.), representing 39.5 percent of imports, Sitc058 (fruit, preserved, and fruit preparations (excluding fruit juices)) 13.3 % and Sitc743 (pumps (other than pumps for liquids), air or other gas compressors and fans; ventilating or recycling hoods incorporating a fan, whether or not fitted with filters; centrifuges; filtering or purifying apparatus; parts thereof) 13.2 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Lebanon declined by 8.9 per cent compared to in April of the previous year, thus amounting to $45 million in April 2021. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), which represented a share of 36.1 per cent of total exports, Sitc897 (jewellery, goldsmiths' and silversmiths' wares, and other articles of precious or semiprecious materials, n.e.s.) 8.3 % and Sitc782 (motor vehicles for the transport of goods and special-purpose motor vehicles) 7.0 % of the exports.

Development during January-April 2021

During January-April trade in goods with Lebanon has grown slower than USA's trade in goods with the rest of the world. During January-April, the value of trade in goods between the two countries rose to $278 million. Growth compared to the corresponding period of the previous year was 5.7 percent. During January-April the value of imports was $54 million. The export value was $224 million. Compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the value of imports increased by 36.3% and the value of exports by 0.2%. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc897 (jewellery, goldsmiths' and silversmiths' wares, and other articles of precious or semiprecious materials, n.e.s.), worth $10 million. In export the largest value had Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), worth being $63 million. The trade balance between USA and Lebanonin between January and April was in surplus for USA. The timing surplus was $170 million.
