USA's foreign trade with Belarus, exports to Belarus and imports from Belarus in September 2022


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In September Belarus was USA's 185. most important foreign trade partner. Improvement from the previous month was 3 places. Most of the value of trade between the countries consists of the import to USA. Trade in goods between the countries of the month was considerably lower than in in September of the previous year. The value of the trade was $3.5 million and the drop was 94.6 %. In September the trade balance with Belarus was $3.3 million in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Belarus decreased strongly, by 93.0 per cent compared to in September of the previous year. The import amounted to $3.4 million in September 2022. Major product categories of imports from Belarus were Sitc679 (tubes, pipes and hollow profiles, and tube or pipe fittings, of iron or steel), representing 22.1 percent of imports, Sitc695 (tools for use in the hand or in machines) 17.7 % and Sitc821 (furniture and parts thereof; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings) 10.3 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Belarus declined considerably,by 99.6 per cent, compared to in September of the previous year, thus amounting to $65.8 thousand in September 2022. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc772 (electrical apparatus for switching or protecting electrical circuits or for making connections to or in electrical circuits (e.g., switches, relays, fuses, lightning arresters, voltage limiters, surge suppressors, plugs and sockets, lamp-holders and), which represented a share of 36.4 per cent of total exports, Sitc851 (footwear) 34.4 % and Sitc776 (thermionic, cold cathode or photo-cathode valves and tubes (e.g., vacuum or vapour or gas-filled valves and tubes, mercury arc rectifying valves and tubes, cathode-ray tubes, television camera tubes); diodes, transistors and similar semiconductor dev) 12.0 % of the exports.

A sharp drop in trade in goods in early 2022

During January-September, trade in goods between the two countries declined sharply (-53.3 %) over the same period last year. The value of the trade was $228 million. During January-September the value of imports was $193 million. The export value was $35 million. Compared to the corresponding period in 2021, the value of both imports and exports decreased significantly. The decline in imports was 38.0 % and in the value of exports 80.3 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc562 (fertilizers (other than those of group 272)), worth $103 million. In export the largest value had Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), worth being $9.0 million. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-September remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $158 million. The trade deficit continued to widen compared to the corresponding period in 2021. At that time, the deficit was $134 million.
