USA's foreign trade with Latvia, exports to Latvia and imports from Latvia in September 2022

The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In September Latvia was USA's 98. most important foreign trade partner. Improvement from the previous month was 8 places. $95 million worth of trade was 7.1 per cent lower than in September of the previous year. In September the trade balance with Latvia was $37 million in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Latvia was 5.4 per cent higher than in September of the previous year, thus amounting to $66 million. Major product categories of imports from Latvia were Sitc248 (wood, simply worked, and railway sleepers of wood), representing 27.6 percent of imports, Sitc112 (alcoholic beverages) 11.3 % and Sitc821 (furniture and parts thereof; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings) 6.1 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Latvia declined by 26.9 per cent compared to in September of the previous year, thus amounting to $29 million in September 2022. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc012 (other meat and edible meat offal, fresh, chilled or frozen (except meat and meat offal unfit or unsuitable for human consumption)), which represented a share of 15.1 per cent of total exports, Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars) 10.5 % and Sitc764 (telecommunications equipment, n.e.s., and parts, n.e.s., and accessories of apparatus falling within division 76) 9.9 % of the exports.

Development during January-September 2022

During January-September trade in goods with Latvia has grown slower than USA's trade in goods with the rest of the world. During January-September, the value of trade in goods between the two countries rose to $863 million. Growth compared to the corresponding period of the previous year was 5.5 percent. During January-September the value of imports was $571 million. The export value was $292 million. Compared to the corresponding period in 2021, the value of imports during this period increased by 11.1 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc634 (veneers, plywood, particle board, and other wood, worked, n.e.s.), worth $112 million. In export the largest value had Sitc792 (aircraft and associated equipment; spacecraft (including satellites) and spacecraft launch vehicles; parts thereof), worth being $53 million. The value of exports during this period decreased by 4.0 %. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-September remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $280 million. The trade deficit continued to widen compared to the corresponding period in 2021. At that time, the deficit was $210 million.
