USA's foreign trade with Latvia, exports to Latvia and imports from Latvia in February 2025


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program.

In February Latvia was USA's 102. most important foreign trade partner. Improvement from the previous month was 6 places. Trade in goods between the countries of the month was considerably lower than in in February of the previous year. The value of the trade was $74 million and the drop was 52.5 %. In February the trade balance with Latvia was $18 million in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Latvia decreased by 0.3 per cent compared to in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $46 million in February 2025. Major product categories of imports from Latvia were Sitc634 (veneers, plywood, particle board, and other wood, worked, n.e.s.), representing 19.0 percent of imports, Sitc764 (telecommunications equipment, n.e.s., and parts, n.e.s., and accessories of apparatus falling within division 76) 6.7 % and Sitc322 (briquettes, lignite and peat) 5.4 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Latvia declined considerably,by 74.4 per cent, compared to in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $28 million in February 2025. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc931 (special transactions and commodities not classified according to kind), which represented a share of 22.8 per cent of total exports, Sitc764 (telecommunications equipment, n.e.s., and parts, n.e.s., and accessories of apparatus falling within division 76) 12.8 % and Sitc874 (measuring, checking, analysing and controlling instruments and apparatus, n.e.s.) 6.5 % of the exports.

A sharp drop in trade in goods in early 2025

During January-February, trade in goods between the two countries declined sharply (-48.5 %) over the same period last year. The value of the trade was $138 million. During January-February the value of imports was $91 million. The export value was $46 million. Compared to the corresponding period in 2024, the value of both imports and exports decreased significantly. The decline in imports was 15.6 % and in the value of exports 70.9 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc634 (veneers, plywood, particle board, and other wood, worked, n.e.s.), worth $18 million. In export the largest value had Sitc931 (special transactions and commodities not classified according to kind), worth being $6.5 million. The trade balance in goods between the two countries between January and February last year had been in surplus when it had a deficit in the corresponding period of the current year. The trade deficit was $45 million.
