USA's foreign trade with Estonia, exports to Estonia and imports from Estonia in September 2023


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program.

In September Estonia was USA's 96. most important foreign trade partner. Most of the value of trade between the countries consists of the import to USA. Trade in goods between the countries of the month was considerably lower than in in September of the previous year. The value of the trade was $99 million and the drop was 46.9 %. In September the trade balance with Estonia was $50 million in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Estonia decreased strongly, by 45.2 per cent compared to in September of the previous year. The import amounted to $74 million in September 2023. Major product categories of imports from Estonia were Sitc764 (telecommunications equipment, n.e.s., and parts, n.e.s., and accessories of apparatus falling within division 76), representing 23.4 percent of imports, Sitc874 (measuring, checking, analysing and controlling instruments and apparatus, n.e.s.) 23.3 % and Sitc771 (electric power machinery (other than rotating electric plant of group 716) and parts thereof) 9.6 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Estonia declined considerably,by 51.4 per cent, compared to in September of the previous year, thus amounting to $25 million in September 2023. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc764 (telecommunications equipment, n.e.s., and parts, n.e.s., and accessories of apparatus falling within division 76), which represented a share of 19.2 per cent of total exports, Sitc774 (electrodiagnostic apparatus for medical, surgical, dental or veterinary purposes, and radiological apparatus) 7.9 % and Sitc891 (arms and ammunition) 7.7 % of the exports.

A sharp drop in trade in goods in early 2023

During January-September, trade in goods between the two countries declined sharply (-36.5 %) over the same period last year. The value of the trade was $898 million. During January-September the value of imports was $593 million. The export value was $306 million. Compared to the corresponding period January - September in 2022, the value of imports during this period decreased by 47.1 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc874 (measuring, checking, analysing and controlling instruments and apparatus, n.e.s.), worth $108 million. In export the largest value had Sitc764 (telecommunications equipment, n.e.s., and parts, n.e.s., and accessories of apparatus falling within division 76), worth being $51 million. The value of exports during this period increased by 4.2 %. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-September remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $287 million. The trade deficit narrowed compared to the corresponding period in 2022. At that time, the deficit was $827 million.
