USA's foreign trade with Philippines, exports to Philippines and imports from Philippines in Juli 2023

The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In Juli Philippines was USA's 33. most important foreign trade partner. Improvement from the previous month was 2 places. $1.9 billion worth of trade was 9.8 per cent lower than in Juli of the previous year. In Juli the trade balance with Philippines was $367 million in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Philippines decreased by 21.2 per cent compared to in Juli of the previous year, thus amounting to $1.1 billion in Juli 2023. Major product categories of imports from Philippines were Sitc776 (thermionic, cold cathode or photo-cathode valves and tubes (e.g., vacuum or vapour or gas-filled valves and tubes, mercury arc rectifying valves and tubes, cathode-ray tubes, television camera tubes); diodes, transistors and similar semiconductor dev), representing 12.5 percent of imports, Sitc773 (equipment for distributing electricity, n.e.s.) 7.6 % and Sitc764 (telecommunications equipment, n.e.s., and parts, n.e.s., and accessories of apparatus falling within division 76) 7.0 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Philippines were 14.8 percent higher than in Juli of the previous year, thus amounting to $752 million. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc776 (thermionic, cold cathode or photo-cathode valves and tubes (e.g., vacuum or vapour or gas-filled valves and tubes, mercury arc rectifying valves and tubes, cathode-ray tubes, television camera tubes); diodes, transistors and similar semiconductor dev), which represented a share of 19.0 per cent of total exports, Sitc764 (telecommunications equipment, n.e.s., and parts, n.e.s., and accessories of apparatus falling within division 76) 10.0 % and Sitc041 (wheat (including spelt) and meslin, unmilled) 9.7 % of the exports.

Development during January-Juli 2023

The trade in goods between January and Juli of 2023 was of lesser value than in the corresponding period of the previous year. The value of the trade was $12.8 billion, down 12.5 %. During January-Juli the value of imports was $7.7 billion. The export value was $5.2 billion. Compared to the corresponding period in 2022, the value of imports decreased by 18.7 % and the value of exports by 1.5 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc776 (thermionic, cold cathode or photo-cathode valves and tubes (e.g., vacuum or vapour or gas-filled valves and tubes, mercury arc rectifying valves and tubes, cathode-ray tubes, television camera tubes); diodes, transistors and similar semiconductor dev), worth $990 million. In export the largest value had Sitc776 (thermionic, cold cathode or photo-cathode valves and tubes (e.g., vacuum or vapour or gas-filled valves and tubes, mercury arc rectifying valves and tubes, cathode-ray tubes, television camera tubes); diodes, transistors and similar semiconductor dev), worth being $1.1 billion. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-Juli remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $2.5 billion. The trade deficit narrowed compared to the corresponding period in 2022. At that time, the deficit was $4.2 billion.
