USA's foreign trade with Pakistan, exports to Pakistan and imports from Pakistan in April 2021


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In April Pakistan was USA's 55. largest foreign trade partner. Rise from the previous month 2 places. Amounting trade to worth of $578 million was 25.8 per cent bigger than in April of the previous year. In April the trade balance with Pakistan was $151 million in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Pakistan was 24.1 per cent higher than in April of the previous year, thus amounting to $364 million. Major product categories of imports from Pakistan were Sitc658 (made-up articles, wholly or chiefly of textile materials, n.e.s.), representing 33.9 percent of imports, Sitc845 (articles of apparel, of textile fabrics, whether or not knitted or crocheted, n.e.s.) 10.8 % and Sitc842 (women's or girls' coats, capes, jackets, suits, trousers, shorts, shirts, dresses and skirts, underwear, nightwear and similar articles of textile fabrics, not knitted or crocheted (other than those of subgroup 845.2)) 9.0 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Pakistan were 28.8 percent higher than in April of the previous year, thus amounting to $213 million. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc263 (cotton), which represented a share of 33.9 per cent of total exports, Sitc282 (ferrous waste and scrap; remelting scrap ingots of iron or steel) 13.1 % and Sitc743 (pumps (other than pumps for liquids), air or other gas compressors and fans; ventilating or recycling hoods incorporating a fan, whether or not fitted with filters; centrifuges; filtering or purifying apparatus; parts thereof) 5.4 % of the exports.

Development during January-April 2021

During January-April trade in goods with Pakistan has grown slower than USA's trade in goods with the rest of the world. During January-April, the value of trade in goods between the two countries rose to $2.6 billion. Growth compared to the corresponding period of the previous year was 12.3 percent. During January-April the value of imports was $1.5 billion. The export value was $1.1 billion. Compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the value of imports increased by 21.6% and the value of exports by 1.2%. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc658 (made-up articles, wholly or chiefly of textile materials, n.e.s.), worth $499 million. In export the largest value had Sitc263 (cotton), worth being $336 million. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-April remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $468 million. The trade deficit continued to widen compared to the corresponding period in 2020. At that time, the deficit was $211 million.
