USA's foreign trade with Greece, exports to Greece and imports from Greece in September 2022

The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In September Greece was USA's 73. most important foreign trade partner. Weakening from the previous month was 3 places. Amounting trade to worth of $298 million was 39.7 per cent bigger than in September of the previous year. In September the trade balance with Greece was $81 million in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Greece was 45.3 per cent higher than in September of the previous year, thus amounting to $189 million. Major product categories of imports from Greece were Sitc056 (vegetables, roots and tubers, prepared or preserved, n.e.s.), representing 12.9 percent of imports, Sitc684 (aluminium) 11.0 % and Sitc661 (lime, cement, and fabricated construction materials (except glass and clay materials)) 10.3 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Greece were 31.1 percent higher than in September of the previous year, thus amounting to $109 million. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc874 (measuring, checking, analysing and controlling instruments and apparatus, n.e.s.), which represented a share of 12.8 per cent of total exports, Sitc282 (ferrous waste and scrap; remelting scrap ingots of iron or steel) 10.0 % and Sitc776 (thermionic, cold cathode or photo-cathode valves and tubes (e.g., vacuum or vapour or gas-filled valves and tubes, mercury arc rectifying valves and tubes, cathode-ray tubes, television camera tubes); diodes, transistors and similar semiconductor dev) 7.8 % of the exports.

Significant increase in trade in goods in early 2022

During January-September, trade in goods with Greece has grown faster than USA's trade in goods with the rest of the world. During this year trade in goods between countries was significantly higher than in January-September of the previous year. Growth was as high as 46.9 per cent and the value of the trade increased to $3.4 billion. During January-September the value of imports was $1.7 billion. The export value was $1.7 billion. Compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the value of imports increased by 38.1 % and the value of exports by 57.2 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar), worth $210 million. In export the largest value had Sitc343 (natural gas, whether or not liquefied), worth being $576 million. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-September remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $33 million. The trade deficit narrowed compared to the corresponding period in 2021. At that time, the deficit was $174 million.
