USA's foreign trade with Lithuania, exports to Lithuania and imports from Lithuania in September 2022


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In September Lithuania was USA's 70. most important foreign trade partner. Weakening from the previous month was 3 places. Amounting trade to worth of $334 million was 25.2 per cent bigger than in September of the previous year. In September the trade balance with Lithuania was $48 million in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Lithuania was 27.3 per cent higher than in September of the previous year, thus amounting to $191 million. Major product categories of imports from Lithuania were Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar), representing 22.4 percent of imports, Sitc598 (miscellaneous chemical products, n.e.s.) 16.0 % and Sitc821 (furniture and parts thereof; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings) 15.2 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Lithuania were 22.5 percent higher than in September of the previous year, thus amounting to $143 million. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), which represented a share of 41.4 per cent of total exports, Sitc034 (fish, fresh (live or dead), chilled or frozen) 10.4 % and Sitc784 (parts and accessories of the motor vehicles of groups 722, 781, 782 and 783) 4.6 % of the exports.

Significant increase in trade in goods in early 2022

During January-September, trade in goods with Lithuania has grown faster than USA's trade in goods with the rest of the world. During this year trade in goods between countries was significantly higher than in January-September of the previous year. Growth was as high as 50.9 per cent and the value of the trade increased to $3.8 billion. During January-September the value of imports was $1.9 billion. The export value was $1.9 billion. Compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the value of imports increased by 22.0 % and the value of exports by 98.3 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar), worth $624 million. In export the largest value had Sitc343 (natural gas, whether or not liquefied), worth being $646 million. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-September remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $13 million. The trade deficit narrowed compared to the corresponding period in 2021. At that time, the deficit was $608 million.
