USA's foreign trade with Hungary, exports to Hungary and imports from Hungary in September 2023


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program.

In September Hungary was USA's 45. most important foreign trade partner. Improvement from the previous month was 3 places. Amounting trade to worth of $1.0 billion was 11.4 per cent bigger than in September of the previous year. In September the trade balance with Hungary was $474 million in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Hungary was 1.4 per cent higher than in September of the previous year, thus amounting to $761 million. Major product categories of imports from Hungary were Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), representing 18.2 percent of imports, Sitc778 (electrical machinery and apparatus, n.e.s.) 13.4 % and Sitc542 (medicaments (including veterinary medicaments)) 10.4 % of the imports.

Exports to Hungary grew strongly over the previous year's September. The value of exports was $288 million. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc714 (engines and motors, non-electric (other than those of groups 712, 713 and 718); parts, n.e.s., of these engines and motors), which represented a share of 20.0 per cent of total exports, Sitc541 (medicinal and pharmaceutical products, other than medicaments of group 542) 16.5 % and Sitc764 (telecommunications equipment, n.e.s., and parts, n.e.s., and accessories of apparatus falling within division 76) 4.9 % of the exports.

Significant increase in trade in goods in early 2023

During this year trade in goods between countries was significantly higher than in January-September of the previous year. Growth was as high as 31.9 per cent and the value of the trade increased to $10.0 billion. During January-September the value of imports was $7.8 billion. The export value was $2.3 billion. Compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the value of imports increased by 37.6 % and the value of exports by 15.5 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc542 (medicaments (including veterinary medicaments)), worth $1.8 billion. In export the largest value had Sitc714 (engines and motors, non-electric (other than those of groups 712, 713 and 718); parts, n.e.s., of these engines and motors), worth being $418 million. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-September remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $5.5 billion. The trade deficit continued to widen compared to the corresponding period in 2022. At that time, the deficit was $3.7 billion.
