USA's foreign trade with Mexico, exports to Mexico and imports from Mexico in April 2021

The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

Trade with Mexico represented in April of 2021, 14.7 per cent share of USA's foreign trade in goods, 15.6% of USA's exports and 14.2% of imports. In April Mexico was USA's largest foreign trade partner. Amounting trade to worth of $54.7 billion was 93.9 per cent bigger than in April of the previous year. In April the trade balance with Mexico was $9.6 billion in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Mexico was 103.4 per cent higher than in April of the previous year, thus amounting to $32.2 billion. Major product categories of imports from Mexico were Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), representing 8.4 percent of imports, Sitc752 (automatic data-processing machines and units thereof; magnetic or optical readers, machines for transcribing data onto data media in coded form and machines for processing such data, n.e.s.) 7.6 % and Sitc782 (motor vehicles for the transport of goods and special-purpose motor vehicles) 7.2 % of the imports.

Exports to Mexico grew strongly over the previous year's April. The value of exports was $22.6 billion. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar), which represented a share of 10.0 per cent of total exports, Sitc784 (parts and accessories of the motor vehicles of groups 722, 781, 782 and 783) 5.2 % and Sitc776 (thermionic, cold cathode or photo-cathode valves and tubes (e.g., vacuum or vapour or gas-filled valves and tubes, mercury arc rectifying valves and tubes, cathode-ray tubes, television camera tubes); diodes, transistors and similar semiconductor dev) 4.9 % of the exports.

Development during January-April 2021

During January-April, trade in goods with Mexico has grown faster than USA's trade in goods with the rest of the world. During January-April, the value of trade in goods between the two countries rose to $208.6 billion. Growth compared to the corresponding period of the previous year was 19.0 percent. During January-April the value of imports was $122.0 billion. The export value was $86.6 billion. Compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the value of imports increased by 18.2% and the value of exports by 20.2%. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), worth $10.2 billion. In export the largest value had Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar), worth being $7.5 billion. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-April remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $35.4 billion. The trade deficit continued to widen compared to the corresponding period in 2020. At that time, the deficit was $31.2 billion.
