USA's foreign trade with South Africa, exports to South Africa and imports from South Africa in November 2020


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In November South Africa was USA's 34. largest foreign trade partner. Decrease from the previous month was 3 places. Most of the value of trade between the countries consists of the import to USA. Amounting trade to worth of $1.4 billion was 35.4 per cent bigger than in November of the previous year. In November the trade balance with South Africa was $739 million in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from South Africa was 56.9 per cent higher than in November of the previous year, thus amounting to $1.1 billion. Major product categories of imports from South Africa were Sitc681 (silver, platinum and other metals of the platinum group), representing 48.8 percent of imports, Sitc667 (pearls and precious or semiprecious stones, unworked or worked) 9.0 % and Sitc897 (jewellery, goldsmiths' and silversmiths' wares, and other articles of precious or semiprecious materials, n.e.s.) 5.7 % of the imports.

The value of exports to South Africa declined by 6.0 per cent compared to in November of the previous year, thus amounting to $333 million in November 2020.

Development during January-November 2020

During January-November, the value of goods between the two countries rose to $14.4 billion. Growth compared to the corresponding period of the previous year was 19.5 percent. During January-November the value of imports was $10.3 billion. The export value was $4.1 billion. Compared to the corresponding period in 2019, the value of imports during this period increased by 44.6 %. The largest value in imports was in Sitc681 (silver, platinum and other metals of the platinum group), worth $3.7 billion. In export the largest value had Sitc784 (parts and accessories of the motor vehicles of groups 722, 781, 782 and 783), worth being $322 million. The value of exports during this period decreased by 16.8 %. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-November remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $6.2 billion. The trade deficit continued to widen compared to the corresponding period in 2019. At that time, the deficit was $2.2 billion.
