USA's foreign trade with Egypt, exports to Egypt and imports from Egypt in August 2020


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In August Egypt was USA's 51. largest foreign trade partner. $530 million worth of trade was 31.6 per cent lower than in August of the previous year. During the month, the balance of trade with Egypt was $99 million of surplus.

The value of imports from Egypt decreased by 29.8 per cent compared to in August of the previous year, thus amounting to $215 million in August 2020. Major product categories of imports from Egypt were Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar), representing 32.5 percent of imports, Sitc845 (articles of apparel, of textile fabrics, whether or not knitted or crocheted, n.e.s.) 11.0 % and Sitc659 (floor coverings, etc.) 6.8 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Egypt declined by 32.8 per cent compared to in August of the previous year, thus amounting to $314 million in August 2020. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc791 (railway vehicles (including hovertrains) and associated equipment), which represented a share of 24.3 per cent of total exports, Sitc222 (oil-seeds and oleaginous fruits of a kind used for the extraction of *soft* fixed vegetable oils (excluding flours and meals)) 16.9 % and Sitc743 (pumps (other than pumps for liquids), air or other gas compressors and fans; ventilating or recycling hoods incorporating a fan, whether or not fitted with filters; centrifuges; filtering or purifying apparatus; parts thereof) 4.0 % of the exports.

Development during January-August 2020

During January-August, trade in goods between the two countries declined sharply (-24.0 %) over the same period last year. The value of the trade was $4.7 billion. During January-August the value of imports was $1.5 billion. The export value was $3.2 billion. Compared to the corresponding period in 2019, the value of both imports and exports decreased significantly. The decline in imports was -33.9 % and in the value of exports -18.5 %. The largest value in imports was in Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar), worth $268 million. In export the largest value had Sitc222 (oil-seeds and oleaginous fruits of a kind used for the extraction of *soft* fixed vegetable oils (excluding flours and meals)), worth being $887 million. The trade balance between USA and Egyptin between January and August was in surplus for USA. The timing surplus was $1.8 billion.
