USA's foreign trade with Egypt, exports to Egypt and imports from Egypt in February 2021


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In February Egypt was USA's 46. largest foreign trade partner. Amounting trade to worth of $758 million was 32.9 per cent bigger than in February of the previous year. During the month, the balance of trade with Egypt was $300 million of surplus.

The value of imports from Egypt was 22.3 per cent higher than in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $229 million. Major product categories of imports from Egypt were Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar), representing 30.8 percent of imports, Sitc845 (articles of apparel, of textile fabrics, whether or not knitted or crocheted, n.e.s.) 12.2 % and Sitc843 (men's or boys' coats, capes, jackets, suits, blazers, trousers, shorts, shirts, underwear, nightwear and similar articles of textile fabrics, knitted or crocheted (other than those of subgroup 845.2)) 7.3 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Egypt were 38.2 percent higher than in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $529 million. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc222 (oil-seeds and oleaginous fruits of a kind used for the extraction of *soft* fixed vegetable oils (excluding flours and meals)), which represented a share of 44.8 per cent of total exports, Sitc044 (maize (not including sweet corn), unmilled) 8.9 % and Sitc041 (wheat (including spelt) and meslin, unmilled) 4.0 % of the exports.

Development during January-February 2021

During January-February, trade in goods with Egypt has grown faster than USA's trade in goods with the rest of the world. During January-February, the value of trade in goods between the two countries rose to $1.4 billion. Growth compared to the corresponding period of the previous year was 19.3 percent. During January-February the value of imports was $471 million. The export value was $978 million. Compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the value of imports increased by 9.5% and the value of exports by 24.6%. The largest value in imports was in Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar), worth $141 million. In export the largest value had Sitc222 (oil-seeds and oleaginous fruits of a kind used for the extraction of *soft* fixed vegetable oils (excluding flours and meals)), worth being $369 million. The trade balance between USA and Egyptin between January and February was in surplus for USA. The timing surplus was $507 million.
