USA's foreign trade with Libya, exports to Libya and imports from Libya in November 2020


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In November Libya was USA's 139. largest foreign trade partner. Decrease from the previous month was 11 places. Most of the the value of trade consists of USA's exports to Libya. $14 million worth of trade was 83.9 per cent lower than in November of the previous year. During the month, the balance of trade with Libya was $14 million of surplus.

The value of imports from Libya decreased strongly, by 100.0 per cent compared to in November of the previous year. The import amounted to $16.9 thousand in November 2020. More than half of the value of imports was in Sitc896 (works of art, collectors' pieces and antiques) representing a share of 100.0 per cent.

The value of exports to Libya declined considerably,by 70.4 per cent, compared to in November of the previous year, thus amounting to $14 million in November 2020. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), which represented a share of 25.5 per cent of total exports, Sitc722 (tractors (other than those of headings 744.14 and 744.15)) 17.3 % and Sitc057 (fruit and nuts (not including oil nuts), fresh or dried) 10.5 % of the exports.

Development during January-November 2020

During January-November, trade in goods between the two countries declined sharply (-71.2 %) over the same period last year. The value of the trade was $500 million. During January-November the value of imports was $215 million. The export value was $284 million. Compared to the corresponding period in 2019, the value of both imports and exports decreased significantly. The decline in imports was -84.2 % and in the value of exports -24.0 %. The largest value in imports was in Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude), worth $212 million. In export the largest value had Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), worth being $76 million. The domestic trade balance between the two countries was in surplus, as it had remained in deficit in January-November of the previous year. The surplus was worth $69 million.
