USA's foreign trade with Libya, exports to Libya and imports from Libya in Juli 2020


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In Juli Libya was USA's 112. largest foreign trade partner. Rise from the previous month 6 places. Most of the the value of trade consists of USA's exports to Libya. $31 million worth of trade was 37.9 per cent lower than in Juli of the previous year. During the month, the balance of trade with Libya was $31 million of surplus.

The value of imports from Libya decreased strongly, by 99.6 per cent compared to in Juli of the previous year. The import amounted to $64.4 thousand in Juli 2020. More than half of the value of imports was in Sitc764 (telecommunications equipment, n.e.s., and parts, n.e.s., and accessories of apparatus falling within division 76) representing a share of 61.8 per cent. The second major category of imports was Sitc747 (taps, cocks, valves and similar appliances for pipes, boiler shells, tanks, vats or the like, including pressure-reducing valves and thermostatically controlled valves), corresponding to the share of 37.0 per cent of imports.

The value of exports to Libya declined by 2.8 per cent compared to in Juli of the previous year, thus amounting to $31 million in Juli 2020. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc081 (feeding stuff for animals (not including unmilled cereals)), which represented a share of 54.6 per cent of total exports, Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars) 5.7 % and Sitc292 (crude vegetable materials, n.e.s.) 4.6 % of the exports.

Development during January-Juli 2020

During January-Juli, trade in goods between the two countries declined sharply (-59.7 %) over the same period last year. The value of the trade was $443 million. During January-Juli the value of imports was $215 million. The export value was $228 million. Compared to the corresponding period January - Juli in 2019, the value of imports during this period decreased by 75.4 %. The largest value in imports was in Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude), worth $212 million. In export the largest value had Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), worth being $68 million. The value of exports during this period increased by 1.6 %. The domestic trade balance between the two countries was in surplus, as it had remained in deficit in January-Juli of the previous year. The surplus was worth $13 million.
