USA's foreign trade with Libya, exports to Libya and imports from Libya in February 2021


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In February Libya was USA's 96. largest foreign trade partner. Decrease from the previous month was 65 places. Most of the value of trade between the countries consists of the import to USA. $75 million worth of trade was 71.5 per cent lower than in February of the previous year. In February the trade balance with Libya was $41 million in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Libya decreased strongly, by 72.7 per cent compared to in February of the previous year. The import amounted to $58 million in February 2021. More than half of the value of imports was in Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude) representing a share of 100.0 per cent.

The value of exports to Libya declined considerably,by 66.7 per cent, compared to in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $17 million in February 2021. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), which represented a share of 37.6 per cent of total exports, Sitc012 (other meat and edible meat offal, fresh, chilled or frozen (except meat and meat offal unfit or unsuitable for human consumption)) 8.9 % and Sitc541 (medicinal and pharmaceutical products, other than medicaments of group 542) 7.2 % of the exports.

Development during January-February 2021

During January-February, trade in goods between the two countries declined sharply (-72.8 %) over the same period last year. The value of the trade was $82 million. During January-February the value of imports was $58 million. The export value was $24 million. Compared to the corresponding period in 2020, the value of both imports and exports decreased significantly. The decline in imports was -73.1 % and in the value of exports -72.0 %. The largest value in imports was in Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude), worth $58 million. In export the largest value had Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), worth being $9.9 million. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-February remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $34 million. The trade deficit narrowed compared to the corresponding period in 2020. At that time, the deficit was $129 million.
