USA's foreign trade with Algeria, exports to Algeria and imports from Algeria in Juli 2020

The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In Juli Algeria was USA's 91. largest foreign trade partner. Decrease from the previous month was 3 places. $80 million worth of trade was 75.8 per cent lower than in Juli of the previous year. During the month, the balance of trade with Algeria was $25 million of surplus.

The value of imports from Algeria decreased strongly, by 84.7 per cent compared to in Juli of the previous year. The import amounted to $28 million in Juli 2020. More than half of the value of imports was in Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar) representing a share of 86.5 per cent. The second major category of imports was Sitc676 (iron and steel bars, rods, angles, shapes and sections (including sheet piling)), corresponding to the share of 7.7 per cent of imports.

The value of exports to Algeria declined considerably,by 65.3 per cent, compared to in Juli of the previous year, thus amounting to $52 million in Juli 2020. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc743 (pumps (other than pumps for liquids), air or other gas compressors and fans; ventilating or recycling hoods incorporating a fan, whether or not fitted with filters; centrifuges; filtering or purifying apparatus; parts thereof), which represented a share of 25.1 per cent of total exports, Sitc714 (engines and motors, non-electric (other than those of groups 712, 713 and 718); parts, n.e.s., of these engines and motors) 11.6 % and Sitc251 (pulp and waste paper) 6.2 % of the exports.

Development during January-Juli 2020

During January-Juli, trade in goods between the two countries declined sharply (-70.4 %) over the same period last year. The value of the trade was $768 million. During January-Juli the value of imports was $326 million. The export value was $442 million. Compared to the corresponding period in 2019, the value of both imports and exports decreased significantly. The decline in imports was -83.3 % and in the value of exports -31.2 %. The largest value in imports was in Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar), worth $233 million. In export the largest value had Sitc743 (pumps (other than pumps for liquids), air or other gas compressors and fans; ventilating or recycling hoods incorporating a fan, whether or not fitted with filters; centrifuges; filtering or purifying apparatus; parts thereof), worth being $42 million. The domestic trade balance between the two countries was in surplus, as it had remained in deficit in January-Juli of the previous year. The surplus was worth $116 million.
