USA's foreign trade with Algeria, exports to Algeria and imports from Algeria in November 2020

The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In November Algeria was USA's 91. largest foreign trade partner. Decrease from the previous month was 17 places. $84 million worth of trade was 51.0 per cent lower than in November of the previous year. During the month, the balance of trade with Algeria was $28 million of surplus.

The value of imports from Algeria decreased strongly, by 67.5 per cent compared to in November of the previous year. The import amounted to $28 million in November 2020. More than half of the value of imports was in Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude) representing a share of 81.6 per cent. Other major categories of imports were Sitc661 (lime, cement, and fabricated construction materials (except glass and clay materials)), 6.7 per cent of imports and Sitc522 (inorganic chemical elements, oxides and halogen salts) 6.2 %.

The value of exports to Algeria amounted to more than a third lower relative to the previous year's November, thus amounting to $56 million in November 2020. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc782 (motor vehicles for the transport of goods and special-purpose motor vehicles), which represented a share of 14.0 per cent of total exports, Sitc057 (fruit and nuts (not including oil nuts), fresh or dried) 10.1 % and Sitc716 (rotating electric plant and parts thereof, n.e.s.) 8.7 % of the exports.

Development during January-November 2020

During January-November, trade in goods between the two countries declined sharply (-67.2 %) over the same period last year. The value of the trade was $1.1 billion. During January-November the value of imports was $402 million. The export value was $693 million. Compared to the corresponding period in 2019, the value of both imports and exports decreased significantly. The decline in imports was -83.5 % and in the value of exports -23.4 %. The largest value in imports was in Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar), worth $270 million. In export the largest value had Sitc743 (pumps (other than pumps for liquids), air or other gas compressors and fans; ventilating or recycling hoods incorporating a fan, whether or not fitted with filters; centrifuges; filtering or purifying apparatus; parts thereof), worth being $97 million. The domestic trade balance between the two countries was in surplus, as it had remained in deficit in January-November of the previous year. The surplus was worth $290 million.
