USA's foreign trade with Morocco, exports to Morocco and imports from Morocco in August 2020

The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In August Morocco was USA's 70. largest foreign trade partner. Rise from the previous month 2 places. $207 million worth of trade was 50.9 per cent lower than in August of the previous year. During the month, the balance of trade with Morocco was $84 million of surplus.

The value of imports from Morocco decreased strongly, by 54.3 per cent compared to in August of the previous year. The import amounted to $62 million in August 2020. Major product categories of imports from Morocco were Sitc522 (inorganic chemical elements, oxides and halogen salts), representing 13.4 percent of imports, Sitc037 (fish, crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates, prepared or preserved, n.e.s.) 11.1 % and Sitc842 (women's or girls' coats, capes, jackets, suits, trousers, shorts, shirts, dresses and skirts, underwear, nightwear and similar articles of textile fabrics, not knitted or crocheted (other than those of subgroup 845.2)) 6.6 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Morocco amounted to more than a third lower relative to the previous year's August, thus amounting to $145 million in August 2020. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar), which represented a share of 32.5 per cent of total exports, Sitc342 (liquefied propane and butane) 8.8 % and Sitc792 (aircraft and associated equipment; spacecraft (including satellites) and spacecraft launch vehicles; parts thereof) 8.5 % of the exports.

Development during January-August 2020

During January-August, trade in goods between the two countries declined sharply (-36.7 %) over the same period last year. The value of the trade was $2.3 billion. The largest value in imports was in Sitc562 (fertilizers (other than those of group 272)), worth $276 million. In export the largest value had Sitc792 (aircraft and associated equipment; spacecraft (including satellites) and spacecraft launch vehicles; parts thereof), worth being $302 million. The trade balance between USA and Moroccon between January and August was in surplus for USA. The timing surplus was $722 million.
