USA's foreign trade with New Zealand, exports to New Zealand and imports from New Zealand in August 2020


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In August New Zealand was USA's 48. largest foreign trade partner. Rise from the previous month 3 places. $616 million worth of trade was 18.0 per cent lower than in August of the previous year. In August the trade balance with New Zealand was $51 million in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from New Zealand decreased by 0.5 per cent compared to in August of the previous year, thus amounting to $333 million in August 2020. Major product categories of imports from New Zealand were Sitc011 (meat of bovine animals, fresh, chilled or frozen), representing 25.8 percent of imports, Sitc112 (alcoholic beverages) 9.7 % and Sitc872 (instruments and appliances, n.e.s., for medical, surgical, dental or veterinary purposes) 5.3 % of the imports.

The value of exports to New Zealand declined by 32.1 per cent compared to in August of the previous year, thus amounting to $283 million in August 2020.

Development during January-August 2020

The trade in goods between January and August of 2020 was of lesser value than in the corresponding period of the previous year. The value of the trade was $5.0 billion, down 7.9 %. During January-August the value of imports was $3.0 billion. The export value was $2.1 billion. Compared to the corresponding period in 2019, the value of imports during this period increased by 1.7 %. The largest value in imports was in Sitc011 (meat of bovine animals, fresh, chilled or frozen), worth $711 million. In export the largest value had Sitc792 (aircraft and associated equipment; spacecraft (including satellites) and spacecraft launch vehicles; parts thereof), worth being $349 million. The value of exports during this period decreased by 18.9 %. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-August remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $884 million. The trade deficit continued to widen compared to the corresponding period in 2019. At that time, the deficit was $354 million.
