USA's foreign trade with Japan, exports to Japan and imports from Japan in November 2020

The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

Japan's share of USA's foreign trade in goods in November 2020 represented a share of 4.9 per cent. Share of USA's that month's exports was 4.0% and 5.5% of imports. In November Japan was USA's fourth largest foreign trade partner. $16.8 billion worth of trade was 3.6 per cent lower than in November of the previous year. In November the trade balance with Japan was $6.7 billion in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Japan was 2.7 per cent higher than in November of the previous year, thus amounting to $11.8 billion. Major product categories of imports from Japan were Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), representing 31.6 percent of imports, Sitc784 (parts and accessories of the motor vehicles of groups 722, 781, 782 and 783) 5.1 % and Sitc778 (electrical machinery and apparatus, n.e.s.) 4.6 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Japan declined by 15.6 per cent compared to in November of the previous year, thus amounting to $5.0 billion in November 2020. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc342 (liquefied propane and butane), which represented a share of 5.8 per cent of total exports, Sitc343 (natural gas, whether or not liquefied) 5.0 % and Sitc792 (aircraft and associated equipment; spacecraft (including satellites) and spacecraft launch vehicles; parts thereof) 4.9 % of the exports.

Development during January-November 2020

The trade in goods between January and November of 2020 was of lesser value than in the corresponding period of the previous year. The value of the trade was $166.6 billion, down 16.5 %. During January-November the value of imports was $108.1 billion. The export value was $58.5 billion. Compared to the corresponding period in 2019, the value of both imports and exports decreased significantly. The decline in imports was -18.1 % and in the value of exports -13.4 %. The largest value in imports was in Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), worth $28.5 billion. In export the largest value had Sitc792 (aircraft and associated equipment; spacecraft (including satellites) and spacecraft launch vehicles; parts thereof), worth being $4.5 billion. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-November remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $49.6 billion. The trade deficit narrowed compared to the corresponding period in 2019. At that time, the deficit was $64.4 billion.
