USA's foreign trade with South Korea, exports to South Korea and imports from South Korea in February 2021


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

South Korea's share of USA's foreign trade in goods in February 2021 represented a share of 3.4 per cent. Share of USA's that month's exports was 3.7% and 3.2% of imports. In February South Korea was USA's sixth largest foreign trade partner. Amounting trade to worth of $10.8 billion was 6.9 per cent bigger than in February of the previous year. In February the trade balance with South Korea was $1.6 billion in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from South Korea was 10.8 per cent higher than in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $6.2 billion. Major product categories of imports from South Korea were Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), representing 22.6 percent of imports, Sitc759 (parts and accessories (other than covers, carrying cases and the like) suitable for use solely or principally with machines falling withing groups 751 and 752) 7.2 % and Sitc784 (parts and accessories of the motor vehicles of groups 722, 781, 782 and 783) 6.2 % of the imports.

The value of exports to South Korea were 2.0 percent higher than in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $4.6 billion. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc728 (other machinery and equipment specialized for particular industries; parts thereof, n.e.s.), which represented a share of 11.6 per cent of total exports, Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude) 8.6 % and Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars) 6.9 % of the exports.

Development during January-February 2021

During January-February, trade in goods with South Korea has grown faster than USA's trade in goods with the rest of the world. During January-February, the value of trade in goods between the two countries rose to $22.5 billion. Growth compared to the corresponding period of the previous year was 4.4 percent. During January-February the value of imports was $12.8 billion. The export value was $9.8 billion. Compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the value of imports increased by 6.7% and the value of exports by 1.6%. The largest value in imports was in Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), worth $2.8 billion. In export the largest value had Sitc728 (other machinery and equipment specialized for particular industries; parts thereof, n.e.s.), worth being $1.3 billion. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-February remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $3.0 billion. The trade deficit continued to widen compared to the corresponding period in 2020. At that time, the deficit was $2.4 billion.
