USA's foreign trade with Philippines, exports to Philippines and imports from Philippines in February 2021

The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In February Philippines was USA's 31. largest foreign trade partner. $1.5 billion worth of trade was 8.8 per cent lower than in February of the previous year. In February the trade balance with Philippines was $228 million in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Philippines decreased by 6.6 per cent compared to in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $864 million in February 2021. Major product categories of imports from Philippines were Sitc752 (automatic data-processing machines and units thereof; magnetic or optical readers, machines for transcribing data onto data media in coded form and machines for processing such data, n.e.s.), representing 12.1 percent of imports, Sitc776 (thermionic, cold cathode or photo-cathode valves and tubes (e.g., vacuum or vapour or gas-filled valves and tubes, mercury arc rectifying valves and tubes, cathode-ray tubes, television camera tubes); diodes, transistors and similar semiconductor dev) 10.7 % and Sitc759 (parts and accessories (other than covers, carrying cases and the like) suitable for use solely or principally with machines falling withing groups 751 and 752) 10.2 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Philippines declined by 11.6 per cent compared to in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $635 million in February 2021. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc776 (thermionic, cold cathode or photo-cathode valves and tubes (e.g., vacuum or vapour or gas-filled valves and tubes, mercury arc rectifying valves and tubes, cathode-ray tubes, television camera tubes); diodes, transistors and similar semiconductor dev), which represented a share of 17.7 per cent of total exports, Sitc223 (oil-seeds and oleaginous fruits, whole or broken, of a kind used for the extraction of other fixed vegetable oils (including flours and meals of oil-seeds or oleaginous fruit, n.e.s.)) 15.4 % and Sitc041 (wheat (including spelt) and meslin, unmilled) 5.4 % of the exports.

Development during January-February 2021

The trade in goods between January and February of 2021 was of lesser value than in the corresponding period of the previous year. The value of the trade was $3.1 billion, down 7.1 %. During January-February the value of imports was $1.9 billion. The export value was $1.2 billion. Compared to the corresponding period in 2020, the value of imports decreased by -2.6% and the value of exports by -13.0 %. The largest value in imports was in Sitc752 (automatic data-processing machines and units thereof; magnetic or optical readers, machines for transcribing data onto data media in coded form and machines for processing such data, n.e.s.), worth $194 million. In export the largest value had Sitc776 (thermionic, cold cathode or photo-cathode valves and tubes (e.g., vacuum or vapour or gas-filled valves and tubes, mercury arc rectifying valves and tubes, cathode-ray tubes, television camera tubes); diodes, transistors and similar semiconductor dev), worth being $243 million. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-February remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $610 million. The trade deficit continued to widen compared to the corresponding period in 2020. At that time, the deficit was $472 million.
