USA's foreign trade with Philippines, exports to Philippines and imports from Philippines in August 2020

The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

Philippines's share of USA's foreign trade in goods in August 2020 represented a share of 0.5 per cent. Share of USA's that month's exports was 0.6% and 0.5% of imports. In August Philippines was USA's 28. largest foreign trade partner. $1.7 billion worth of trade was 9.6 per cent lower than in August of the previous year. In August the trade balance with Philippines was $299 million in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Philippines decreased by 10.2 per cent compared to in August of the previous year, thus amounting to $984 million in August 2020. Major product categories of imports from Philippines were Sitc776 (thermionic, cold cathode or photo-cathode valves and tubes (e.g., vacuum or vapour or gas-filled valves and tubes, mercury arc rectifying valves and tubes, cathode-ray tubes, television camera tubes); diodes, transistors and similar semiconductor dev), representing 9.5 percent of imports, Sitc759 (parts and accessories (other than covers, carrying cases and the like) suitable for use solely or principally with machines falling withing groups 751 and 752) 7.8 % and Sitc752 (automatic data-processing machines and units thereof; magnetic or optical readers, machines for transcribing data onto data media in coded form and machines for processing such data, n.e.s.) 7.2 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Philippines declined by 8.8 per cent compared to in August of the previous year, thus amounting to $685 million in August 2020. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc776 (thermionic, cold cathode or photo-cathode valves and tubes (e.g., vacuum or vapour or gas-filled valves and tubes, mercury arc rectifying valves and tubes, cathode-ray tubes, television camera tubes); diodes, transistors and similar semiconductor dev), which represented a share of 16.9 per cent of total exports, Sitc041 (wheat (including spelt) and meslin, unmilled) 12.2 % and Sitc223 (oil-seeds and oleaginous fruits, whole or broken, of a kind used for the extraction of other fixed vegetable oils (including flours and meals of oil-seeds or oleaginous fruit, n.e.s.)) 9.8 % of the exports.

Development during January-August 2020

The trade in goods between January and August of 2020 was of lesser value than in the corresponding period of the previous year. The value of the trade was $12.2 billion, down 14.3 %. During January-August the value of imports was $7.0 billion. The export value was $5.2 billion. Compared to the corresponding period in 2019, the value of imports decreased by -17.5% and the value of exports by -9.6 %. The largest value in imports was in Sitc759 (parts and accessories (other than covers, carrying cases and the like) suitable for use solely or principally with machines falling withing groups 751 and 752), worth $912 million. In export the largest value had Sitc776 (thermionic, cold cathode or photo-cathode valves and tubes (e.g., vacuum or vapour or gas-filled valves and tubes, mercury arc rectifying valves and tubes, cathode-ray tubes, television camera tubes); diodes, transistors and similar semiconductor dev), worth being $997 million. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-August remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $1.8 billion. The trade deficit narrowed compared to the corresponding period in 2019. At that time, the deficit was $2.7 billion.
