USA's foreign trade with Brunei, exports to Brunei and imports from Brunei in Juli 2020


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In Juli Brunei was USA's 157. largest foreign trade partner. Rise from the previous month 20 places. $8.2 million worth of trade was 33.4 per cent lower than in Juli of the previous year. During the month, the balance of trade with Brunei was $3.0 million of surplus.

The value of imports from Brunei was 380.5 per cent higher than in Juli of the previous year, thus amounting to $2.6 million. More than half of the value of imports was in Sitc931 (special transactions and commodities not classified according to kind) representing a share of 66.1 per cent. Other major categories of imports were Sitc515 (organo-inorganic compounds, heterocyclic compounds, nucleic acids and their salts, and sulphonamides), 10.4 per cent of imports and Sitc845 (articles of apparel, of textile fabrics, whether or not knitted or crocheted, n.e.s.) 8.5 %.

The value of exports to Brunei declined considerably,by 52.4 per cent, compared to in Juli of the previous year, thus amounting to $5.6 million in Juli 2020. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc743 (pumps (other than pumps for liquids), air or other gas compressors and fans; ventilating or recycling hoods incorporating a fan, whether or not fitted with filters; centrifuges; filtering or purifying apparatus; parts thereof), which represented a share of 16.6 per cent of total exports, Sitc728 (other machinery and equipment specialized for particular industries; parts thereof, n.e.s.) 12.4 % and Sitc741 (heating and cooling equipment and parts thereof, n.e.s.) 9.7 % of the exports.

Development during January-Juli 2020

During January-Juli, trade in goods between the two countries declined sharply (-47.2 %) over the same period last year. The value of the trade was $147 million. During January-Juli the value of imports was $76 million. The export value was $70 million. Compared to the corresponding period in 2019, the value of imports during this period increased by 170.7 %. The largest value in imports was in Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar), worth $58 million. In export the largest value had Sitc714 (engines and motors, non-electric (other than those of groups 712, 713 and 718); parts, n.e.s., of these engines and motors), worth being $19 million. The value of exports during this period decreased by 71.8 %. The trade balance in goods between the two countries between January and Juli last year had been in surplus when it had a deficit in the corresponding period of the current year. The trade deficit was $5.7 million.
