USA's foreign trade with Brunei, exports to Brunei and imports from Brunei in November 2020


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In November Brunei was USA's 172. largest foreign trade partner. Rise from the previous month 30 places. Most of the the value of trade consists of USA's exports to Brunei. $5.7 million worth of trade was 29.7 per cent lower than in November of the previous year. During the month, the balance of trade with Brunei was $3.0 million of surplus.

The value of imports from Brunei decreased by 6.2 per cent compared to in November of the previous year, thus amounting to $1.4 million in November 2020. Major product categories of imports from Brunei were Sitc931 (special transactions and commodities not classified according to kind), representing 28.1 percent of imports, Sitc844 (women's or girls' coats, capes, jackets, suits, trousers, shorts, shirts, dresses and skirts, underwear, nightwear and similar articles of textile fabrics, knitted or crocheted (other than those of subgroup 845.2)) 20.7 % and Sitc691 (structures and parts of structures, n.e.s., of iron, steel or aluminium) 14.2 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Brunei amounted to more than a third lower relative to the previous year's November, thus amounting to $4.3 million in November 2020.

Development during January-November 2020

During January-November, trade in goods between the two countries declined sharply (-40.4 %) over the same period last year. The value of the trade was $191 million. During January-November the value of imports was $82 million. The export value was $109 million. Compared to the corresponding period in 2019, the value of imports during this period increased by 102.0 %. The largest value in imports was in Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar), worth $58 million. In export the largest value had Sitc714 (engines and motors, non-electric (other than those of groups 712, 713 and 718); parts, n.e.s., of these engines and motors), worth being $31 million. The value of exports during this period decreased by 61.0 %. The trade balance between USA and Brunein between January and November was in surplus for USA. The timing surplus was $27 million.
