USA's foreign trade with Indonesia, exports to Indonesia and imports from Indonesia in August 2020


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

Indonesia's share of USA's foreign trade in goods in August 2020 represented a share of 0.7 per cent. Share of USA's that month's exports was 0.5% and 0.9% of imports. In August Indonesia was USA's 22. largest foreign trade partner. Decrease from the previous month was 2 places. $2.4 billion worth of trade was 3.4 per cent lower than in August of the previous year. In August the trade balance with Indonesia was $1.1 billion in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Indonesia decreased by 4.0 per cent compared to in August of the previous year, thus amounting to $1.7 billion in August 2020. Major product categories of imports from Indonesia were Sitc845 (articles of apparel, of textile fabrics, whether or not knitted or crocheted, n.e.s.), representing 7.1 percent of imports, Sitc821 (furniture and parts thereof; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings) 6.5 % and Sitc036 (crustaceans, molluscs and aquatic invertebrates, whether in shell or not, fresh (live or dead), chilled, frozen, dried, salted or in brine; crustaceans, in shell, cooked by steaming or boiling in water, whether or not chilled, frozen, dried, salted o) 5.5 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Indonesia declined by 1.6 per cent compared to in August of the previous year, thus amounting to $609 million in August 2020. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc222 (oil-seeds and oleaginous fruits of a kind used for the extraction of *soft* fixed vegetable oils (excluding flours and meals)), which represented a share of 10.4 per cent of total exports, Sitc342 (liquefied propane and butane) 9.7 % and Sitc081 (feeding stuff for animals (not including unmilled cereals)) 5.7 % of the exports.

Development during January-August 2020

During January-August 2020, the value of trade in goods between countries was lower than the corresponding period in the previous year. The value of the trade was $18.1 billion, a decrease of 2.4 %. During January-August the value of imports was $13.2 billion. The export value was $4.8 billion. Compared to the corresponding period in 2019, the value of imports decreased by -0.4% and the value of exports by -7.3 %. The largest value in imports was in Sitc851 (footwear), worth $952 million. In export the largest value had Sitc222 (oil-seeds and oleaginous fruits of a kind used for the extraction of *soft* fixed vegetable oils (excluding flours and meals)), worth being $541 million. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-August remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $8.4 billion. The trade deficit continued to widen compared to the corresponding period in 2019. At that time, the deficit was $8.0 billion.
