USA's foreign trade with Malaysia, exports to Malaysia and imports from Malaysia in Juli 2020

The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In Juli 2020 Malaysia represented 1.4 per cent of USA's foreign trade in goods, 0.9 % of USA's exports and 1.7 % of imports. In Juli Malaysia was USA's 18. largest foreign trade partner. Most of the value of trade between the countries consists of the import to USA. $4.4 billion worth of trade was 0.3 per cent lower than in Juli of the previous year. In Juli the trade balance with Malaysia was $2.3 billion in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Malaysia was 1.7 per cent higher than in Juli of the previous year, thus amounting to $3.4 billion. Major product categories of imports from Malaysia were Sitc776 (thermionic, cold cathode or photo-cathode valves and tubes (e.g., vacuum or vapour or gas-filled valves and tubes, mercury arc rectifying valves and tubes, cathode-ray tubes, television camera tubes); diodes, transistors and similar semiconductor dev), representing 34.7 percent of imports, Sitc764 (telecommunications equipment, n.e.s., and parts, n.e.s., and accessories of apparatus falling within division 76) 8.5 % and Sitc751 (office machines) 5.7 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Malaysia declined by 6.2 per cent compared to in Juli of the previous year, thus amounting to $1.1 billion in Juli 2020. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc776 (thermionic, cold cathode or photo-cathode valves and tubes (e.g., vacuum or vapour or gas-filled valves and tubes, mercury arc rectifying valves and tubes, cathode-ray tubes, television camera tubes); diodes, transistors and similar semiconductor dev), which represented a share of 23.9 per cent of total exports, Sitc773 (equipment for distributing electricity, n.e.s.) 8.4 % and Sitc288 (non-ferrous base metal waste and scrap, n.e.s.) 7.2 % of the exports.

Development during January-Juli 2020

During January-Juli, the value of goods between the two countries rose to $30.6 billion. Growth compared to the corresponding period of the previous year was 5.0 percent. During January-Juli the value of imports was $23.3 billion. The export value was $7.3 billion. Compared to the corresponding period in 2019, the value of imports during this period increased by 7.1 %. The largest value in imports was in Sitc776 (thermionic, cold cathode or photo-cathode valves and tubes (e.g., vacuum or vapour or gas-filled valves and tubes, mercury arc rectifying valves and tubes, cathode-ray tubes, television camera tubes); diodes, transistors and similar semiconductor dev), worth $10.1 billion. In export the largest value had Sitc776 (thermionic, cold cathode or photo-cathode valves and tubes (e.g., vacuum or vapour or gas-filled valves and tubes, mercury arc rectifying valves and tubes, cathode-ray tubes, television camera tubes); diodes, transistors and similar semiconductor dev), worth being $1.7 billion. The value of exports during this period decreased by 1.2 %. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-Juli remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $16.0 billion. The trade deficit continued to widen compared to the corresponding period in 2019. At that time, the deficit was $14.4 billion.
