USA's foreign trade with Malaysia, exports to Malaysia and imports from Malaysia in February 2021

The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

Trade with Malaysia represented in February of 2021, 1.5 per cent share of USA's foreign trade in goods, 0.9% of USA's exports and 1.9% of imports. In February Malaysia was USA's 16. largest foreign trade partner. Most of the value of trade between the countries consists of the import to USA. Amounting trade to worth of $4.7 billion was 7.0 per cent bigger than in February of the previous year. In February the trade balance with Malaysia was $2.5 billion in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Malaysia was 9.6 per cent higher than in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $3.6 billion. Major product categories of imports from Malaysia were Sitc776 (thermionic, cold cathode or photo-cathode valves and tubes (e.g., vacuum or vapour or gas-filled valves and tubes, mercury arc rectifying valves and tubes, cathode-ray tubes, television camera tubes); diodes, transistors and similar semiconductor dev), representing 37.0 percent of imports, Sitc848 (articles of apparel and clothing accessories of other than textile fabrics; headgear of all materials) 11.2 % and Sitc764 (telecommunications equipment, n.e.s., and parts, n.e.s., and accessories of apparatus falling within division 76) 6.4 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Malaysia declined by 0.5 per cent compared to in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $1.1 billion in February 2021. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc776 (thermionic, cold cathode or photo-cathode valves and tubes (e.g., vacuum or vapour or gas-filled valves and tubes, mercury arc rectifying valves and tubes, cathode-ray tubes, television camera tubes); diodes, transistors and similar semiconductor dev), which represented a share of 23.3 per cent of total exports, Sitc288 (non-ferrous base metal waste and scrap, n.e.s.) 9.1 % and Sitc792 (aircraft and associated equipment; spacecraft (including satellites) and spacecraft launch vehicles; parts thereof) 5.3 % of the exports.

Development during January-February 2021

During January-February, trade in goods with Malaysia has grown faster than USA's trade in goods with the rest of the world. During January-February, the value of trade in goods between the two countries rose to $9.6 billion. Growth compared to the corresponding period of the previous year was 4.6 percent. During January-February the value of imports was $7.4 billion. The export value was $2.3 billion. Compared to the corresponding period in 2020, the value of imports during this period increased by 8.1 %. The largest value in imports was in Sitc776 (thermionic, cold cathode or photo-cathode valves and tubes (e.g., vacuum or vapour or gas-filled valves and tubes, mercury arc rectifying valves and tubes, cathode-ray tubes, television camera tubes); diodes, transistors and similar semiconductor dev), worth $2.7 billion. In export the largest value had Sitc776 (thermionic, cold cathode or photo-cathode valves and tubes (e.g., vacuum or vapour or gas-filled valves and tubes, mercury arc rectifying valves and tubes, cathode-ray tubes, television camera tubes); diodes, transistors and similar semiconductor dev), worth being $560 million. The value of exports during this period decreased by 5.6 %. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-February remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $5.1 billion. The trade deficit continued to widen compared to the corresponding period in 2020. At that time, the deficit was $4.4 billion.
